  • Need Good Advice

Righteo I'm a casual poker player and just come on every now and again for a few games for fun.

Tonight I qualified for the WCOOP tomorrow night, Event 2 with a $215 ticket. I tried to withdraw it but it's tournament dolla.

So I'm not sure, is it worth me just playing the tournament and hoping I do well? I'm not a bad player and I can play poker it's just I know the standard of players will be much higher than I'm used to so I was going to withdraw.

So my dilemma is whether to just continue using the tournament money to enter a series of tournaments for smaller entree fee or if I should take a gamble and follow the path made out for me having won the satellite.

Hi SmythCruesfc, Yes it is a bit of a dilema. The first question you could ask yourself is - Have you played a 2 day online event before? About 10 hours the first day with short 5min hourly breaks and then do it all again on Monday. Previously I won a satellite into one of these 2 day events and planned the food / snacks for the day then got busted after a few hours. Today I cashed a satellite into T-money as that was my preference. Also I think it depends on your normal buy-in level. If you are used to playing the Sunday Millions it's just another tourney. Or 215 $1 games will keep you busy for a while with no real financial risk. The regular higher stakes players may be able to help you a bit more. umbup:

Not going to tell you, will prod you.

      1 ---- Go for it.
You won the right to play in this game. It is a great opportunity. Each of those players entered feel the same as you, wondering if they can make it into the money. You did it the hard way, earning a ticket, so you've proven you have the skills, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

2 ---- Use the T-dollars for other games.
You know what game or games you're most comfortable playing. The site has effectively given you a stake you can use to earn real money. If you are more comfortable playing something else, go for those games. You'll most likely earn more this way since your mind is more confident.

Now which of these two options ticked you off? Do the opposite. It's my best suggestion. Good luck whichever way you go.

Try to look at this as an EV situation. What is your expectation if you play the $215 event? You're a long shot but your probability of cashing is not zero.

Next, what is your expectation playing your normal games? If you know your ROI then your expectation is 215 + 215 * ROI. The smart thing is to do what nets you the most $.

That being said, you've earned yourself a shot. If not playing will get you into a "What if?" funk then think about taking a shot.

Before Black Friday I sattied into some $215 games and I played some and took the T$ some. It usually came down to was I on my A game or not. If not I took the T$, which was most of the time. But the one's I played were learning experiences. And I don't regret them.

I decided I'm going to play it. My biggest issue is patience and concentration, when I play low stakes I usually get bored and because I only paid a couple of $ I end up playing very loose.

Throughout qualification I knew I had a big chance and played a very tight aggressive game which worked. I believe I played good poker and maybe I was too tight more than anything.

At the end of the day I don't play loads of poker as it is and with $215 at hand I will end up pissing it away playing a load of tournaments when bored with the "it's never been in my hand" attitude.

Anyway if there are any experience MTT players then I'd appreciate if you could rail me (skype - markdsmyth). If I do make the money then I will give you something back if I think you've helped me. You don't need to be some pro, just someone who has a good understanding of the game and wants to help me.

Cheers for everything so far guys, keep an eye out for me

Will also be updating my twitter at www.twiiter.com/thehatchetmaneu

            Hi Mark!

If you take anyone's advice while playing a hand.. that IS collusion and is against the TOS.

Oh I didn't know that, thanks for telling me. Could you edit that part out of my post? I wasn't trying to cheat, I just genuinely didn't know that it was seen as cheating as I'm so inexperienced.

Well if anyone has tips or advice for me heading into this then fire away

                Hi Mark!

Tons better to learn this way, then to have your account frozen or worse.

                    just go for it

                    hi SmythCruesfc,

it is nice to see you win a sattellite ticket for the wcoop 2 nd event.

buddy, just go for it. if you have quallified for it through sattellite, u cant be a bad player. you are equally good like most of other wcoop players.

so my advise is just go for it. you just never know what will happen tommorw. you might can win the tourny...anybody can win it. we see this every sunday millions....so never be affraid.,,

just go for it and do it.........oppertunity comes once in a lifetime....think about this

Id personally break it down into smaller tourneys myself but im a tight arse lol. If your running good tho you might want to take a shot at it for the big payday. I wont be taking part in any of the colluding you have mentioned tho haha. Good luck with what ever you decide umbup:

GL Crues, I too would break it down if I had the chance and it wasn't my regular buy in amount. I don't mind taking shots but remember the higher stakes (usually) the better standard.

There's no point in taking advice, you would probably play a totally different game than me and any advice would be bad advice. If you run into any difficult situations then put the hand up here and someone will guide you. It's better to learn from your mistakes.

BTW I won the Con Club live game on Friday for £240, only my 4th live game all year

Yeah well I don't play loads as it is and I'd just throw the $ away I imagine in tournaments as I'll see it as free money. This way I'll play a good game as there is alot at stake and I may have a fairytale ending.

Ahh nice one, I really wish I got round to going to a few live games. I've been on holiday though and had no money all summer. Once I'm back at uni across the water, I'm hoping to play a bit of live poker at the casinos.

18 minutes to go, will try to update in here as I play.

Yes mate, play your own game but don't think of it as scared money. If you have a hand then bet it, play a tight aggressive game. There will be a load in this game where $215 is pocket money and will splash it around.

I'm never scared at any level and rarely do I limp to make the cash (bubbled in a $1M pushing a better hand that was called by the chip leader).

                            Go for it mate.

Not sure when game started/starts but I would definitely use it for T$ but that is because my bankroll is low and I would feel like they all better than me In a $10 game i satellited into once I was surprised at the low quality but I still did not cash So its your decision based on your bank roll/skill level goodluck umbup: rolo
