  • Good first time book?

Hi I've been playing hold'em for some time and much more online lately, but have never really thought too much about my game until the last few months. I have taken in lots of advice on board and used as much of it as I can in my game, I feel I am becoming a lot better player and want to buy a poker book to read and hopefully help me further improve my game.

All over the internet people suggest 'the theory of poker' as the best book to read but is this a good first time book or would i be better reading something else? I don't consider myself to be a complete beginner, but i am definitely not as advanced as many people on this forum so any help in deciding which book to buy as a first time would be great thanks alot.

Oh and recently I have been playing Omaha and Stud as well although my skill level at this is very basic as I only learnt to play stud about 3-4 weeks ago and Omaha about 5 weeks ago.

I bought my son "The Mammoth Book of Poker" by Paul Mendelson, I've had a read and its written simply with some good examples to illustrate concepts.

Its not Harrington by any stretch of the imagination but as an entry level read to get a grasp of basic concepts I think its worth considering.
