          Brilliant!

You've passed the basic test and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

          Step Two

The Poker Basics test was easy right? Well, there's a lot more to learn on the road to becoming a profitable poker player.
Now study the Cash Game course and once you think you have it mastered have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

Let us know as soon as you have passed the Cash Game Quiz and we will award you with your next buy-in.

Hi Hellement666! With AA in the BB, I get a 2 limps, a min-raise and 4 calls of the min-raise. I'm going to make a standard 3-bet here and the key is the sizing of it. I need to size the bet between 3X the previous bet (12) and a pot-sized raise (28). With multiple opps in the pot, I will raise to 28. I want to keep all of my bets and raises standard, as this helps to conceal the strength of my hand. Players that bet more with better hands and less with marginal ones are basically turning their cards face-up... which is something that I want to avoid. I now get shoved on by an opp and when it gets to me, I'm absolutely going to re-shove. I have the best hand preflop, so while I will lose a given % of the time, I know that I'm getting my chips in ahead. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

Hi Joss, I am posting two hands: In this hand, I took a bit of risk playing 85s. After flop J8J, my opponent (Villain_8) bet only half the pot, so I guessed he had an ace or a king with another card, but definitely not a jack or 8. My guess was confirmed after turn and river - if he had two pairs or higher cards, he would have been betting more than just 0.04$. My question is: Should have I raised my opponent's bet a bit more after turn (instead of just calling)? In this hand, I took another risk playing 108s. I got straight right after flop, so I raised 3/4 of the pot. Villain_4 raised to 0.20, so I guessed he had two pairs, or a flush draw. That is why I re-raised to 0.60 in hope that he will fold. After turn, I just checked to see if he had the flush. And after river, I knew that I had a stronger hand and that he might have had an ace, so I put it all-in. My question is: Was it worth taking a risk that my opponent would get a flush? Thank you for your analysis. Hellement666

Hi Hellement666! In the first hand w We have several options preflop depending on the villains. Folding, calling and raising to isolate the limper are all possible. Postflop on a flop like this you are either way ahead or way behind. At 2NL I like calling as you did. This keeps the villain's range wide and allows him to keep betting with Ax hands that you are beating. If you raise, most of these hands will fold and only the overpairs or Jx hands will continue. The same is true on the turn and river. I like calling each street. On the river, I wouldn't raise unless you have notes/read on the villain. Typically, the hands we are beating will fold to your raise so you cant win much more value. Here your read was good. Nice hand In the second hand You have the nuts on the flop, but a flush draw is possible. Leading out as you did is great. It gains you value and protects your hand from any chasers. Your 3bet size is good on its own, but it leaves you with an inconsequential amount behind. Normally 3x the raise is a good 3b size, here I would have gone a bit smaller or perhaps larger, depending on our read. It is important to note that you want to get called here in order to gain max value. If the villain has a flush draw or two pair, you will win the hand about two thirds of the time. You will get drawn out on a third of the time, but in the long run spots like this will be extremely profitable for you. Try to maximize your profit here, not force them to fold. I hope this makes sense Finally, in both hands there are many open seats at the table. This is not good as it forces you to play too many marginal hands just like the ones you posted here. Try to stick to tables where all the seats are filled. This will allow you to stick to good situations and stronger starting hands which in turn will make your postflop play much easier. GL and have fun at the tables! Roland GTX
