Hi bobdilon92! With 77 from UTG, I'm going to make a standard raise to 3BB+1BB for each limper. With one limper (the player that posted the blind), I will raise to 4BB or 80 chips. I want to keep all of my bets and raises standard as this helps to keep the opps guessing as to the cards that I actually have. Players that bet more with better hands and less with marginal ones are basically turning their cards face-up to an observant opponent... something that I want to avoid. I now get two calls, a raise to 100, re-raise to 560 and a call of this. While I do have a pair, it's a marginal pair that can be beat by many overcards that can show up on the board. Due to this, I need to muck my 77 here and wait for a better situation. Patience is a key in poker and I need to be able to muck my marginal hands and wait for a situation when I am ahead. If I saw the flop with chips left behind (which I would not), when I see that I hit middle set, I need to shove. Bets postflop need to be sized based on the size of the pot, number of opps and board texture. With 4 or more opps, a standard bet is a pot-sized bet, but I don't have this many chips, so I need to shove. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

                Brilliant!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

                Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.

Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

                1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
                2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
                3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in.

                Best of Luck!

First reason to bet big is to be able to bluff. 2nd reason is to get value from my made hands and 3rd reason is to put pressure on my opponents.

Hi Bob, you posted an interesting hand here!

I like the call preflop, you have a decent hand that has got potential to flop flush and/or straight draws, you are in position and against multiple opponents where you are more likely if you do hit a monster.

I like just calling the flop. V2 could have a fairly wide range of hands as he also called V1's initial raise. He might have flopped a set, a flush or straight draw, overcards, we don't really know yet. You have a good but not great hand, just calling and keeping the pot smallish is a good idea.

We hit a great turn. When villain bets again I would raise this. If he is on a draw, we need to charge him to see another card. Slowplaying on a board like this is extremely risky, there are so many bad cards that could come on the river. Also our hand isn't really strong enough to be slowplaying with confidence, there are several hands ahead of us. I would raise to about $0.60 with the intention of calling his all-in raise if he makes one.

As it turns out, the worst card in the deck comes on the river. I would now treat our trip 8s with great caution as every draw just got there. When villain bets big, I would definitely not raise. I would most likely just call although against some villain types you could even fold here.
