Hi Tricerato! The first thing that I see here is before the hand even starts. Whenever I sit down to a ring table, I always wait for the BB to start playing. Paying extra blinds over and over to start immediately is a huge drain to a player's bankroll and something that I need to avoid. With A4s from UTG+1, I get two limps in front of me (yes, the post counts as a limp). I'd like to immediately fold here as it's nowhere near a strong enough hand to be playing from this position, but since the blind was posted, I'll check and hope to see a free flop. I definitely do not have a strong enough hand to make a standard raise to 3BB+1BB for each limper. Just because I have an ace or suited cards does not mean the hand is playable. From UTG+1, the only hands with an ace that I should be playing are AA, AK or maybe AQs. All the others are too weak from this position at the table. An opp now 4-bets and when it gets to me, since A4s is not even strong enough to raise with, it's definitely not strong enough to call a raise with. It takes a much stronger hand to call a raise than it does to initially raise with. If I saw the flop, which I never would here, I need to check and hope to hit a card on the turn. Bets postflop need to be sized based on the size of the pot, number of opps and board texture. With 2 opps in the hand, I cannot bet less than a standard bet of 2/3 pot. Doing so can be giving the opps the correct odds to outdraw me... something that I need to avoid. Patience is a big key in poker and I need to be able to fold my marginal and bad hands and to wait for better cards and better situations. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

                  Brilliant!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

                  Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.

Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

                  1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
                  2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
                  3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in.

                  Best of Luck!

                          Hi Tricerato,

I think you made a good call preflop. You have a decent hand and you will be in good position for the rest of the hand against the raiser.

On the flop, although you have no pair, you have two overcards to the board and you have to call $0.02 to play for a pot of $0.30, in other words 15:1 odds. You are getting a great price to call, so I would call like you did.

On the turn you've hit top pair. I think both calling the bet and raising are good options. I would probably raise here to get value from 9x, 6x and worse Qx hands and maybe win the pot here and now.

On the river you make top two pair. This time the villain bets very large. This has all the hallmarks that he really likes his hand. Against some opponents I would raise all in to try and get the maximum value from what is likely the best hand. However I think the villain might well have a set (three of a kind) here, so I think you make a very prudent decision to just call.

As it turns out he does have three of a kind, but I think you played the hand very well in all spots.
