Hi rocketzzzzz! With T9s from UTG, I need to open-fold this. It's not a strong enough hand to be playing from this position. If it folded to me on the button, then I'd make a standard raise to 3BB+1BB for each limper, but from early position, it's not strong enough. If I did see the flop, when an opp bets into me while I'm holding a marginal hand, I also need to fold. Most likely, the opp should have a K or better and is ahead. I want to be putting my chips into the pot when I'm most likely ahead, not when I'm most likely behind. Poker is a game where patience is a virtue. I need to muck marginal hands and wait until I know I'm ahead before putting all of my chips into the pot. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

Excellent! You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job! Step Two Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you. Please watch the following video and answer the question below. List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet? Then study the Cash Game Course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this. So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus. 1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. 2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it. 3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks completed and we will award you with your next buy-in. Best of Luck! umbup:

Hi rocketzzzzz! I'll analyse the hand in post #10.

I think Q8s is a bit too weak to play in this position. There's a limper in the pot and an isolation raise to 4bb. It's likely the hand will go multiway if you call, and this improves your implied odds of winning a big pot if you make a monster, but you started the hand with only 35bb. You're not deep enough to go speculating. With suited connectors and gappers, you'll generally need to see all 5 community cards to make a strong hand, but you don't have enough chips to put money in on every street. So folding pre-flop is best. When fairly short, avoid "drawing hands" and only play hands that make good top pairs and sets, like 99+, AQ+, KQ.
As played, you call, and this causes a chain reaction. Five players see the flop. In a multiway pot, the winning hand will tend to be much stronger than usual. Top two pairs is usually the minimum requirement, but flushes, straights and full houses will also occur with so many players in the pot. You got a pretty good flop for your hand: top and bottom pair on QT8. This is a wet board, where you're likely to get action from a variety of draws, as well as top pair. Two pairs is a vulnerable holding that is occasionally counterfeited when the middle card on the flop is paired on a later street. You should therefore play it fast, to get value from worse and to deny villains a good price to call and suckout. Betting when it's checked to you is correct, but make it a little bigger. In a multiway pot, you should increase your bet-size to about 3/4 pot. Half pot gets one caller. On the turn, which is a total blank, you usually still have the best hand. There's 82c in the pot, and you only have 43c behind, so it's standard to get it all in now. Villain makes a very bad call with the idiot end of a gutshot. It would have been brutal if he'd hit his 4-outer, but you survived this time. When you see that villains make bad calls like this, you should realise that you can get more value from them. This villain would likely have called a bigger bet on the flop, so try targetting him with bigger bets when you have a big hand.

                        Hope this helps!
To get more tuition on cash game basics, I recommend going to live training sessions for the Wednesday and Saturday Games if you can. You'll even be able to play alongside other PSO members in the Homegame club and get instant feedback on the way you play your hands. Good luck!

                        Cheers,
