Right, wrong, or unlucky? Hi there, So let me explain this situation, i sat down at the table and immediately noticed how aggressive everyone was being. Shipping with marginal hands, calling with marginal and weak hands. So i decided to play very tight. I Was UTG with pocket 8's and decided to limp in as I was pretty certain that there would be a raise (Was the trend at the table). There were limps all around the table till the SB who made a big raise ( putting me all in). BB folds. Now in normal circumstances I would fold but from previous hands I noticed that this 'Raiser' has been pushing in with marginal hands and with the previous hand he went all in pre-flop with J8 off suite. So i decided that he was just punishing the limpers, so I called. He had AJ off. Pre-flop I was ahead but he hit his Ace on the flop. Should I have played this any different, or was my logic sound but just got unlucky?

Hi SeanyB77! With 88 or any other hand that I'm going to be the first into the pot with, I'm going to make a standard raise to 3BB+1BB for each limper. First in, I'll raise to 3BB or 60 chips. I do not want to ever open-limp, as this is a very exploitable play where I will lose a very large number of chips over time doing. I can limp marginal hands behind someone, but not open-limp. After a number of limps, the SB makes an abnormally large raise (standard would be to 3BB+1BB for each limper). Whether I call or fold here will need to be based on my read of the opp. If the opp is a maniac, then I'm going to call. If the opp is a tighter player, then I need to fold. Also, if I think that any of the players behind me are also going to call, I need to fold too, as 88 plays much worse in multi-way pots when compared to heads-up. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

Excellent! You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job! Step Two Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you. Please watch the following video and answer the question below. List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet? Then study the Cash Game Course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this. So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus. 1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. 2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it. 3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks completed and we will award you with your next buy-in. Best of Luck! umbup:

In this hand, I just felt that if an ace had to come I would be good, my opponent made it cheap enough for me to see if it would come, is this the wrong attitude?
