Did I play the hand correctly ? I was so sure that I'm the favorite but seeing 3 players going all in was scary.

Hi nucky888! With AK (or any other hand that I want to play), I'm going to make a standard raise, which is to 3BB+1BB for each limper. With 1 limper, I will raise to 8 chips. By keeping all of my bets and raises standard, this helps to conceal the strength of my hand. Players that bet more with better hands and less with marginal ones are basically turning their cards face-up to an observant opponent... something that I want to avoid. I see a 5-way flop that I hit TPTK and the nut flush draw. I now get an abnormally small bet by an opp before me. Bets post-flop need to be sized based on the size of the pot, number of opps and board texture. With 4+ opps in the pot, I need to make a pot sized raise here, so I will raise to 64. I don't want to bet less than this or the opps could possibly be getting the correct odds to try to outdraw me. When the opp makes a min raise, I don't want to shove. I only want to shove when I'm pot-committed and I do not have 1/3 of my remaining chips going into the pot, which is the point where I would be pot-committed. Players that make large overbets are doing what is known as value-owning themselves. They cause all worse hands to fold and only better ones to call. I want to have the worse hands call, so that I can get value for my hand. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

                  Brilliant!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

                  Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.

Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

                  1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
                  2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
                  3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in.

                  Best of Luck!

I started off the hand with a decent raise preflop. I guess I made a mistake after flop and didn't raise. My opponent saw the turn without any problem. I lost the hand there itself.

Three reasons for big bets can be-
To put a lot of pressure on the opponent
To bluff people off descent hands
To gain value from very strong hands

                          Hi nucky888,

I will your Hand Analyzer for this post

I think raising preflop is a descent option, I would have made it to a standard 3x just to keep hands that we beat in; the thing is our hand is not so great but raising here is good to play the hand heads up and not invite many opponents in the pot.

I think this is a good flop to cbet to get hands like AK/AQ/KQ to fold; I would put one bet and plan to give up on later streets.
