Some of my friends say that the brains to do very well in the world of poker. I am a Ph.D. student in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Instructional Design and Multimedia Learning.

I study how human beings learn and have a grasp of human psychology. I believe this helps when I get on the tables. Lately I have been up and down...and I attribute this to not exercising the same discipline when playing each time.

I usually play a very tight-aggressive game...moving to the loose-aggressive quadrant when I have built a solid table image. Lately I have been playing ZOOM on PSO...but this doesn't do much as far as learning.

Looking forward to learning as much as I can...would like to get into some real life tournaments.

Here is a hand I won tonight that went pretty well. My only issue is that I think I could have brought more people into the pot by betting a little more slyly. I bet a little hard when the third JACK hit...and this pushed some people out. I think if I had played it cool, it might have gone better...but then again, betting this big pushed some people out of the hand before the river. This may have been the right thing to do, but I think it might have been possible to make the pot larger. When the fourth JACK hit, I had nothing left to do since I was already all-in. With a bigger bank-roll, I think I could have forced my opponent into betting more. All in all, I think it was well-played.

Hi jmtenet211! I'll analyse the hand in post #4.

I like the raise pre-flop with JJ. You get 2 callers and get a great flop. Sets are monsters, so you want to try and get the most value. There is 165 in the pot and you have 305 chips behind. You want to get all in eventually, but not straight away, as you want to maximise value. The best way to do that would be to put a third of your stack in on the flop and the remaining two thirds on the turn. By betting 100 into 165, you wouldn't be over-betting, so you'd have more chance of getting calls from both villains, as it still wouldn't be profitable for them to call with pairs or draws. Try and stick with standard bet sizes of between half pot and full pot on the flop and turn. Overbetting has its uses, but those situations come up rarely. If you use standard bet-sizes, you will be harder to read, and you will be more likely to get paid off. Making quads is always nice though. Nice hand!

            Hope this helps!
To get more tuition on cash game basics, I recommend going to live training sessions for the Wednesday and Saturday Games if you can. You'll even be able to play alongside other PSO members in the Homegame club and get instant feedback on the way you play your hands. Good luck!

Excellent! You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job! Step Two Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you. Please watch the following video and answer the question below. List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet? Then study the Cash Game Course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this. So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus. 1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. 2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it. 3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks completed and we will award you with your next buy-in. Best of Luck! umbup
