Hi prohidie! With AKo and 3 limps in front of me, I'm going to make a standard raise, which is to 3BB+1BB for each limper. I will therefore raise to 6BB or 60 chips. I now get 2 calls, an abnormally small raise to 170 and a call of it. With an unmade hand with potential (I only have ace high), I'm going to call here and re-evaluate after the flop. I see a 5-way flop and totally miss it. When it checks to me, I'm going to check behind and hope to see a free turn card as any of these opps could have hit the flop or already have a pair. The turn is another blank and once again, since I can easily not have the best hand, I'm going to check behind and hope to see a free river card. The river is another blank and now an opp makes a thin-value bet. With only ace high, not being able to beat anyone that paired the board or has a pocket pair, I need to muck to this bet. If there was only 1 opp in the hand, what I would have done differently is to make a 1/2 pot bet on the turn, but with 4 opps in the hand, I can't make this play, as there is a high probability that I'm behind. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

Excellent! You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job! Step Two Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you. Please watch the following video and answer the question below. List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet? Then study the Cash Game Course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this. So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus. 1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. 2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it. 3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks completed and we will award you with your next buy-in. Best of Luck! umbup:

Hi prohidie! I'll take you through the hand in post #8.

I think you played this hand pretty well, albeit a little too passively. J3o, as I'm sure you're aware, is a trash hand. The only time I would ever play this hand is when I'm in the big blind and can check my option to see a flop for free, like you did here. The flop comes AA6, so you have nothing, and the villain that limped the button checks behind. On the turn, you hit your jack, so you could well have taken the lead. Although there aren't many worse hands that can call a bet here, I would take a stab at the pot. Villain could have a flush or straight draw or a random pair worse than yours. If he has a draw, or even just an overcard to your pair with Kx or Qx, you don't want to give him the opportunity of drawing out for free. Another good reason to bet is that if you get raised, you can be very sure that you do not have the best hand, so you can fold, having lost the minimum. The problem with checking is that villain can bet and you don't know if he has a better hand, or he is bluffing. If I was in his position, I would always be betting the turn once you've checked twice. You call his 2c on the turn, and the river comes a Q. This is a bad card for you, as Qx just improved, and KT made a straight. In a way, you're check-guessing here, as you've not been able to narrow villain's range. Basically, you're losing to Ax, 66, Qx, better jacks, and KT, and you're only beating bluffs. I don't mind your call, as villain can be using his position to try and steal the pot with any two cards. It turned out villain actually flopped trips and slowplayed it. To eliminate guessing games, I would recommend you bet the turn. Poker is a lot easier to play if you are the one driving the action, and the bet-fold play (meaning you bet for value, but fold if you get raised) is a great way of making correct decisions. Passively check-calling leads to you never knowing you're beat until it's too late.

                    Hope this helps

                    Cheers,
                    Arty
