hand analysis Hi, In this hand i had a 6,3 off-suit and was given a chance to see a flop on the cheap, if not it would normally be an easy fold pre-flop. And boy was i glad i did when i flopped top pair with a straight draw. I called the the flop quite easily as it was only 3 BBs as i wanted to hide the strength of my hand. I completed my straight draw on the turn and did a call-raise as i was second to call. I didn't want to put off anyone who might have called so i called before raising. true enough, one other player folded and it was just me and another who saw the river. At this point I had a rough idea that we both made the straight but was played rather apprehensively and put in a small value bet at the river as i was afraid he hit the full house. I would like to know if i played the hand correctly and i would like some tips on how i might have bet on this hand better in order to get full value in the case where i did not chop the pot like i did here. Thanks!

Hi Hairyguru! With 36o in the BB, I get a limp, a min-raise and three calls. Since my hand is nowhere near strong enough to call a raise with, I need to muck this preflop. One big leak that many players have is to try to play too many hands from the blinds due to already having chips in the pot. Due to the positional disadvantage postflop, in reality, I want to play the least from the SB than from any other spot on the table and the next least from the BB. Playing too many hands due to it looking cheap, will cost a player a lot of chips over time, as it is a big chip leak. If I was in the pot (which I would NOT be), when I see that I flop top pair and an OESD on a board with a possible flush, I need to raise the abnormally small bet before me. Bets postflop need to be made based on the size of the pot, the number of opps in the hand and the board texture. With 5 opps in the hand, I need to make a pot-sized raise here to 36. If I bet anything less, then I can be giving the opps the correct odds to try to outdraw me, which is something that I want to avoid doing. When I hit a straight on the turn and the opp makes another abnormally small bet, I once again need to raise to protect my hand against the flush draw. With 4 opps in the hand, I once again need to make a pot-sized raise, so I will raise to 66.. BUT.. this is over 1/3 of my remaining chips, which means that I'm pot-committed and therefore cannot fold. Due to this, I need to SHOVE the turn. If I bet less than this, then the opps can be getting the correct odds to draw to the flush or a full house and if I lose the hand due to betting too small, it's my own fault if I lose the hand, as I gave the opp a positive play to be in the hand against me. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

Excellent! You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job! Step Two Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you. Please watch the following video and answer the question below. List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet? Then study the Cash Game Course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this. So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus. 1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. 2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it. 3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks completed and we will award you with your next buy-in. Best of Luck! umbup:
