          Hi chimst!

With J3 from UTG, I need to immediately fold this. Especially from early position, I only want to be playing very strong hands, as I'm at a huge disadvantage from early position post-flop. The only hands that I would play from this position are AK and large pairs. Even AQ is an iffy play from here.
Really bad hands should always be mucked from early position.

Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.

          John (JWK24)

P.S. Please let me know when you have completed the quiz.

              Brilliant chimst!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

              Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.

Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

              1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
              2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
              3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in.

              Best of Luck!

Player may want to make a big bet to:

                  - put a lot of pressure to opponents
                  - protect against strong draws
                  - gain value from very strong hands
                  - bluff people out of decent hands

                    Hi chimst!

I will have the hand looked at, but this is NOT a FULL RING table, it's 6-max. Please only play FULL RING. If you play any more 6-max tables, you will make yourself INELIGIBLE for any future bonuses in this promotion.

Hi chimst! I'll take a look at the hand in post #9.

As John pointed out, this is a 6-max table, where the play is loose and aggressive. The PSO beginner courses are designed for full ring tables, where a disciplined and patient style is profitable, so please sit on 9-handed tables for the remainder of this promotion. Nevertheless, I'll take a look at this hand.

You have K4o under the gun (UTG). This is a trash hand and you are in bad position. The best play is to fold. Limping in is a weak play that does not give you an immediate chance to win. In fact, it encourages players to take the initiative. The button raises, so the action comes back to you. This is your second chance to fold what rates to be the worst hand. As played, you call, and now you have to play the hand out of position, which is neither easy or profitable. You got a great flop, with top and bottom pair on K54. The standard play here is to check to the pre-flop raiser, to allow him to make a continuation bet with his entire range. Then you can come over the top with a check-raise for value. Instead, you lead out with a minbet of 2c into 15c. This bet makes no sense. If you have the best hand, you want to get value for it and you want to make it a mistake for villain to call with a draw. The villain pounces on your show of weakness, and raises it up to 8c. He could be doing this with a hand that beats you, such as a set, or a hand he thinks is best (like AK), or he may be (semi-)bluffing. I would re-raise for value and protection here. Two pairs is a strong hand that deserves a big pot. You did indeed raise, but it's a small raise to 15c. When trying to get value for your strong hands, your bets and raises should be somewhere between half pot and full pot. You can either look at the size of the pot at the top of the table, or just multiply the size of the current bet by three to find a good amount to raise to. I would have made it about 22c, to force villain into making a mistake if he has the worst hand. Villain calls your minraise and you see a turn card.
Bingo! You made a full house. Since you were the last raiser on the previous street, you should maintain the initiative and keep betting. A good size (as usual) would be between half pot and full pot, but you have less than a half pot bet in your stack, so you have to go all in. Villain calls with trips, top kicker, so you got all in as a big favourite, but unfortunately villain hit a 3-outer with the ace on the river.
You were unlucky here, but this bad beat would never have happened if you'd taken a standard line. Folding pre-flop would mean you lost no money at all, and a solid raise on the flop would have discouraged villain from calling with bottom pair. What happened in this hand is something that happens to lots of beginners. Villains suck out on the river, and it's all because you didn't bet big enough to stop them! If you bet/raise between half pot and full pot, these suck outs won't happen so often.

Hope this helps. better luck with the next stage of the promotion! Remember to find a 9-handed table.

                      Cheers,
                      Arty

                          Hi chimst!

The last part of that step is to pass the cash basics quiz. Once you do so, this will unlock the second bonus. Please let me know when you have passed it.
