Hi Tyrono! With KQs from the hijack, I'm going to make a standard raise, which is to 3BB+1BB for each limper. With 4 limpers, I will raise to 7BB or 70 chips. I want to keep all of my bets and raises standard, as this helps to keep the opps guessing as to the cards that I'm playing. Players that bet more or less than this based on their cards are basically turning them face-up to their opponents.... something I want to avoid doing. I see an 8-way flop where I hit top pair/2nd kicker. When it checks to me, I need to make a standard value bet based on the size of the pot, number of opps and board texture. With 4 or more opps, I need to make a pot-sized bet and will therefore bet 360... BUT... this is over 1/3 of my chips, which means that I'd be pot-committed and cannot ever fold. With this being the case, I need to SHOVE the flop. Standard bets are a big key in poker, as it helps to keep the opps guessing as to the strength of my hand. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

Excellent! You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job! Step Two Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you. Please watch the following video and answer the question below. List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet? Then study the Cash Game Course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this. So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus. 1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. 2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it. 3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks completed and we will award you with your next buy-in. Best of Luck! umbup:

Hi Tyrono! I'll take a look at the hand in post #9.

You got aggressive in this hand and took down the pot, but it's not the same line that I would take. With 99 on the button facing a raise by the UTG player and a call, you're in a perfect spot to go set-mining multiway. The UTG player is likely to have a strong range (something like TT+, AQs+, AK), so if you make a set and he has top pair or an overpair, you could win his whole stack.
Instead, you decided to re-raise. I'm not keen on this, as you're basically turning your hand into a bluff, when it has a good deal of value. If villain folds JJ/TT, that's a great result for you, but what do you do if he has QQ+/AK and 4-bets? You'll have to fold, having wasted 18c. Against an UTG raise, I'm pretty much calling with everything but KK/AA.
Villain calls the 3-bet OOP, which is generally a mistake, and I would be concerned he has QQ/JJ, as it's common for villains to call with those hands, as they feel like they are too good to fold. The flop comes T82, which seems like a pretty good flop, but it depends on villain's range. When he leads out with a donkbet, I'd give him credit for QQ/JJ and just fold. By raising, you can get him off AK and JJ maybe, but again you're bluffing. If you were going to take this line, you may as well have 72, because 99 and 72 are losing to exactly the same hands. Your read seems sound, because villain did indeed fold after stabbing at the pot, but in the long run, I think you'll be throwing money away.
With hands like 99 that don't flop all that well, it's better to keep the pot relatively small. If you flop a set, then you can build a pot and try and win a whole stack, but I wouldn't go crazy and turn it into a bluff very often. Villains will call with better hands way too often.

                        Hope this helps!
To get more tuition on cash game basics, I recommend going to live training sessions for the Wednesday and Saturday Games if you can. You'll even be able to play alongside other PSO members in the Homegame club and get instant feedback on the way you play your hands. Good luck!

                        Cheers,
