Played it correct? Obviously I won the hand, but did I just get lucky or was i getting the correct odds all the way? Also the river seemed like the only option since I expect to get called by pretty much anything connected with this board. Am I completely off here or are my assumptions correct ? Also I passed the "Poker Basics" Quiz i think, unles that was a different quiz i took.

Hi zdravko104! I'll take a look at this hand. I think you played it pretty well. With all the limpers, you get great pot odds to call and play the pot in position on the button, but be warned that your aim should be to make at least two pairs. In multiway pots, the winning hand will have to be a lot stronger than normal, because it has to beat so many opponents, so just hitting the ace with an average kicker won't be good enough. The flop comes KJ8, which isn't great for you, but you have an overcard and a backdoor flush draw. Just checking behind and taking a free card is the right play, because making a bluff here is unlikely to work with so many opponents. (Someone's bound to have something.) The on the turn is a great card for you. It's better than an ace or 9, in fact, because now you have the nut flush draw. One villain minbets 2 chips and another calls, so the action is on you. How you act requires comparing the pot odds to your chance of making the flush. Since the pot will be 20 if you call, then the equity you require to make a breakeven call is [cost of cal]/[size of pot after your call] = 2/20 = 1/10 = 10%. You can call this bet if you will make a flush more often than 10% of the time. It's possible a villain already has a flush, which would mean you only have 7 outs to hit, but even that gives you about a 14% chance of making it (using the Rule or 4 and 2). If you have the full 9 outs of a flush draw, you'll hit it about 18% of the time. Since your chance of hitting is greater than the percentage of the pot that you have to pay, this is a profitable call. As luck would have it, you make the nuts on the river. Now it's just a case of extracting maximum value. There is a bet of half pot, followed by a call, so it seems likely that at least one villain has a flush. The pot contains 40 chips when the action reaches you, and I think going all in is the best play. I'd usually make a raise of about the size of the pot, but I'm so sure that at least one of these villains will call with a flush that betting the maximum makes sense. In fact, both call, showing the 2nd nuts and 4th nuts. Nice hand! Hope this helps! Cheers, Arty

              Brilliant!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

              Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.

Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

              1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
              2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
              3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in.

              Best of Luck!

Should I be raising this from MP ? what about the turn check ? can I extract more than 1 street of value with this hand, what do you think about the small river bet? I was thinking I'm leaving a lot of his 8x 99 tt type hands in? Also I did the cash game course and the answer to the question in the vidio "when to bet big" is when we want to put a lot of pressure on opponents, to bluff opponents off of decent hands that have us beat and to protect against draws So I think I'm done with the second 3 steps

Hi zdravko104! I'll take a look at the hand in post #10.

Pre-flop with J9, you're two seats off the button, and I'd generally just fold here. For advice on which hands to play in each position, take a look at my blog (and skip forward to see the posts containing hand charts).

As played, you raised and got called by a player who has position on you. I really like the way you played this post-flop. Heads up on a J82 flop, I'd usually be making a continuation bet with my entire range, but here you can bet for value. When villain calls, he usually has a draw or a worse pair. The turn is relatively blank, and I like checking here, because worse hands (like A8, 77, 55) are more likely to look you up on the river if you take the bet-check-bet line. The river is a total blank. You bet here, which is standard, and villain folds, so you probably had the best hand from the flop onwards. Nice hand, well played!

Good luck with the rest of this promotion!
                        Cheers,
                        Arty
