pot commited? i tought that the risk worth it because it was an uncertain re-raise from him on preflop after me betting in UTG 3 BB(representig pretty strong hand there)...and i thought that i was pot commited and therefore i payed another two big blinds(uncertain re-raised)..What is your oppinion?...should i play next time the same way, with calling on preflop? or just fold instant after he re-raised me just 2 big blinds thinking that he is representing a pretty strong hand like (AA,KK or just a better kicker AK)? P.S. Sorry about my english :P

              Hi cipsfun!

The hands you posted in posts #4 and #5 are tournament hands. While you're allowed to play freerolls, this promotion is for cash games where the blinds remain static. The Basic PSO courses are designed for beginners to cash games. Tournaments require a different strategy, because your relative stack size will fluctuate as the blinds increase. In future, please post cash game hands, but I'll take a look a look at the AQ tournament hand.

With AQ UTG, I'd often just fold. It's a tricky hand to play out of position. If you decide to play it, then raising is correct. When you get re-raised, however, I'd recommend mucking. For someone to 3-bet your UTG open, they need a very strong hand, typically in the range QQ+/AK. AQ is crushed by that range, and you can't show a profit by calling, especially when villain has position on you. Playing bloated pots out of position and without the betting lead is a big leak. See my blog for more info on what to do when you get 3-bet.
As played, you call and hit TPTK. The right play here would be to check to the raiser, as he's likely to c-bet with his entire range. You get value by letting him bet with worse hands, and by calling his bet. By leading out with a donkbet, you can get valueowned. Worse hands will fold (so you don't get paid) and only better hands will call. If villain has QQ+, he's winning your stack here. Since villain folded this time, he probably had AK.

              Hope this helps!
To get more tuition on cash game basics, I recommend going to live training sessions for the Wednesday and Saturday Games if you can. You'll even be able to play alongside other PSO members in the Homegame club and get instant feedback on the way you play your hands. Good luck!

              Cheers,
              Arty

Hi cipsfun! I'll take a look at the KK hand.

With KK on the button facing a raise, a re-raise (3-bet) is appropriate. In a tournament situations, it's easy to get pot-commited (meaning a third of your stack is in the middle, and folding is unwise), because your stack size is relatively small. When your re-raise is called by two players, the pot is close to 1500, and you only have 1691 behind, so on good flips for your hand it's time to try and get your stack in. Here, everything works out fine. One villain makes a tiny bet, and another makes a decent raise. Your only good option is to shove all in, because the pot is now larger than your stack. You get it in on 863, and both villains fold, which is somewhat surprising. The villain that raised the flop put more than a third of his stack in the middle, so he should be calling, unless he had a total bluff. You added a lot of chips to your stack here. Nice hand.
Remember to play on cash tables where the blinds remain static on the next part of this promo.

                    Hope this helps!
                    Cheers,

Excellent! You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job! Step Two Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you. Please watch the following video and answer the question below. List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet? Then study the Cash Game Course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this. So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus. 1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. 2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it. 3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in. Best of Luck! umbup:
