Hi siako37! With A5o from the CO, I get a min-raise and two callers in front of me. With this action, I need to muck A5 here, as I'm most likely out-kicked by one of the opps. Just because I have an ace or suited cards does not always mean that the hand should be played. If it were folded to me, then I'd make a standard open raise to 3BB+1BB for each limper, but with a raise and calls, I need to muck my marginal hand. I flop a gutshot draw and now I need to see if it's worth it to call. I need to call 100 into a pot that will be 445 (22.5%). I have 4 outs and from the rule of 4 and 2, each out is worth 2% equity to the turn, so 4 outs is worth 8%. Since my pot equity (22.5%) is higher than my hand equity (8%), I need to muck. On average, I will lose 14.5% each time that I call here... so I need to muck. The same thing on the turn. I would need to call 100 into 945 (10.6%) which is still higher than what my hand is worth (8%). When the pot equity is higher, I need to muck, as I'll lose chips on average, each and every time that I play the hand. I want to be putting my chips into the pot when I'm ahead or when I have the correct odds to draw. In this hand, I never had a made hand and never had the correct odds to draw... so I need to muck. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

Brilliant! You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job! Step Two Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you. Please watch the following video and answer the question below. List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet? Then study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this. So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus. 1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. 2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it. 3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in. Best of Luck! Raiser umbup:

i have passed the cash game course and the answer of question is * to gain value from very strong hands * to protect against strong draws * to bluff people off decent hands i played this hand so bad. i had to muck my hand pre flop, on flop and turn and river.

Hi siako37! I'll take a look at this hand, which you realise was completely butchered.

There's a limper UTG who probably has a weak hand, so you can certainly consider making an isolation raise to try and get heads up in position against him. You chose the ideal sizing of 3bb +1bb (8c), but you're missing a crucial ingredient for the recipe. You don't have a hand! Q3s is just too weak to play in this situation. I'd stick with the hands recommended in the PSO courses for now. I'd sometimes iso-raise a limper in this position with any two suited cards over 8 (like J9s or K8s), but there are so many players still to act, and you're quite inexperienced, that you're better off sticking with strong value hands.

A problem occurs here when it's actually the big blind that calls the 8c raise, and not the limper. The BB will typically have a fairly strong hand, as players should play very snug in the blinds, as it's hard to make money out of position. You see a two-tone flop of T96. This is the sort of flop that hits the big blind's range, as he'll have small and medium pairs, suited connectors and Broadways. Nevertheless, I'm usually making a c-bet when it's checked to me in position, as c-bets have a high success rate. This isn't a great flop to c-bet (I'd prefer a K72 rainbow), but it's worth a shot. Since you're bluffing (you have queen high), you don't need to bet so big. A bet of half pot achieves the same thing as 3/4 pot. Villain is either calling (he has something) or folding (he has nothing). When bluffing, try and bet the smallest amount that will cause a villain to fold.
Villain calls, so you should definitely give up on the turn. The 4h is a total blank. Anything that called the flop is calling the turn, because this card is not a scare card. Your sizing of half pot is better, but I'd much rather check behind, as you could make a pair of queens for free.
Villain calls again and the river brings another 9. This is your 3rd chance to give up, but you decide to bluff again and shove the rest of your stack in. The line you took would actually cause me to fold a pair of tens here. There's a small chance you have trips, but mostly your line of raise pre, bet-bet-bet looks like an overpair. I'd put you on JJ or better.
This villain doesn't believe the story though. Either that, or he's thinking only of his own hand. Most 2NL players are incapable of folding TPTK, so it's suicidal to try and bluff them off it.

I think you learned a valuable lesson here, although it cost you a dollar twenty. It's really best to play straightforwardly at these limits. Stick with solid value hands. When you hit the flop hard, go for maximum value, but when you miss, then it's best to give up on the turn if you get called and don't improve. Bluffing often is not a profitable policy when there are so many calling stations at the lowest stakes.

                        Hope this helps!
                        Cheers,
                        Arty
