Hand History Could you analyze this hand?: Should I have folded on the flop instead of on the turn? Was it OK to call the raise on the flop? Thank you

Hi SingeNu86! With J9o from UTG, I'm going to immediately fold this preflop, as it's not a strong enough hand to be playing from early position. When playing from early position, due to the very large disadvantage associated with it, I will only be playing premium hands from it. Playing marginal-at-best hands from here will be a very large drain to the amount of chips that I have. When I'm the fist to open a pot, I also never want to open-limp. If my hand is not strong enough to make a standard raise with, then I need to muck it. Open-limping is a play that is very exploitable by a better opp that can cost me a large amount of chips. I also do not want to be calling raises from the opps with marginal hands. I want to be putting my chips into the pot when I'm ahead, not when I know I'm behind. If I was in the hand (which I would never be), I flop second pair. With this many opps in the hand, one could very easily have a K since they raised or called a preflop raise, so I'm going to check and fold to any bet from an opp. Once again, I want to be putting my chips in when I'm ahead, not when I'm behind. The exact same thing for the turn. In almost every case here, I'm not ahead, so I will check and fold to any bet from an opp. The key here is to muck bad hands preflop, especially when out of position. Playing too many hands will cost me a very large number of chips. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

Brilliant! You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job! Step Two Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you. Please watch the following video and answer the question below. List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet? Then study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this. So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus. 1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. 2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it. 3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in. Best of Luck! Raiser umbup:

Bankroll Builder - Step 2 complete

I have completed the following steps of the Bankroll Builder:

                  1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. (See previous post)

                  2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
                  Three reasons:
                  a) To put a lot of pressure on opponents
                  b) To bluff people off decent hands
                  c) To gain value from very strong hands

                  3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. (Done)

I am ready for the next step!

Hi SingeNu86 Preflop looks great. Your bet size is perfect and AK is a strong starting hand. You miss the flop, but doesn't seem too dangerous (no draws and low cards). C-betting as you did is exactly what you want to do here. The problem was your betsize. On a dry board, I always make my c-bet 50% of the pot which would have been 6 or 7 cents here rather than 4. By betting small, you give the villain good odds to continue with the hand regardless of what they are holding. Had you bet more, he may have folded. Once you get called, I would get a bit more careful and check the turn. I like checking because the Q and J are in the villain's holding range AND the Q gives you a few more outs toward a straight. Barreling the turn is fine though. However, once again, it is important to bet a bit more. 50% of the pot will get most villains with nothing and even smaller pairs to fold. When you finally hit on the river, betting again is understandable. It is important to note that if the villain had raised your river bet, you should normally fold. AK is a great starting hand, and you have top pair top kicker, but your hand is not strong enough to risk your entire stack over. Keep an eye on your bet sizes in the future. A longer C-bet may very well have won this hand... GL and have fun at the tables! Roland GTX
