Hi Mitchy8777! With J3 on the button, there are 5 limps in front of me. I'm going to be playing a much wider range of cards from the button, but J3 is just too weak of a hand to get involved with. I want to be playing a hand with some potential, either a pair, high cards, suited connectors or a suited 1-gap (example 8 10). Even in postion, I want to be mucking less than average hands and to save my chips for a better situation. If I was in the pot, when it checks to me on the flop, I only have jack high. Due to this, I'm going to check behind and see a free turn card. Yes, I have the flush draw, but I do not want to be putting chips into the pot when I know that I'm behind (with this many opps, someone has a pair, A, K or Q). When the opp shoves, since I'm basically ALWAYS behind here and may be drawing dead, I need to muck here. The key with this hand is to muck bad hands preflop and to not chase when I have nothing and am behind. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

Brilliant Mitchy8777! You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job! Step Two Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you. Please watch the following video and answer the question below. List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet? Then study the Cash Game course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this. So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus. 1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer. 2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it. 3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz. Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in. Best of Luck!umbup: John (JWK24)

Here are 3 reasons why people want to make big bets...

                - To put a lot of pressure on opponents
                - To gain value from very strong hands
                - To protect hand from strong draws

Here is a hand I want analyzed. Picked up Jacks, was my betting OK or could I have gotten more value from my opponent?

                    Hi Mitchy!

With JJ in the big blind, I'm always playing the hand when there's just one villain in the pot, but since this player opened in EP, I'm often just calling. His range should be very strong, like 99+ AQ+. 3-betting could get us into trouble, as villain will tend to 4-bet all his better hands (QQ+, AK) and probably fold the ones we beat (TT, 99). In addtion, your 3-bet sizing is a little small. If villain opens to 6c, I like a 3X raise to at least 18c, if not 20c, especially as you are out of position. You want to make it seem like you have KK+.
All the above would apply if you were sitting with 100bb ($2), but here you're actually short-stacked with just 50c. When you make the 3-bet, you've committed more than a third of your stack to the pot. This means you cannot fold and have to go all in on almost any flop. You couldn't have got any more money from this villain, because he's only calling on the flop with a hand that beats you (Kx, AA). Sometimes you could check the flop and shove the turn, if you think villain has a worse hand, but you might have actually got villain to fold QQ on the flop, so your play was good.

                    Hope this helps!
                    Cheers,
                    Arty
