Hey HokyPokyToo, I've watched the video and passed the basic course. Here's a hand that I played at the play money tables. And I want to know my hand play was good or bad?

Hi VuLjbero! With 79o in the BB, I'm more than happy to check and see the flop for free since it is not a good hand. If any of the opps had raised, I'd fold. The flop gives me top pair with a bad kicker and I'm going to make my standard value bet against one opp of 1/2 the size of the pot (3 chips). I do not want to make a large bet of over the size of the pot because by doing so, I should only get called by a hand that beats me and I should fold out all of the hands that I am ahead of. The turn is an overcard that the opp could easily have, so I'm going to check and hope to see a free river card. If the opp bets here, I'll muck. The river pairs the board and completes a flush and straight. Since I checked the turn, I'm also going to check the river and hope to get to showdown cheaply, since I do have showdown value, but there are also a number of hands that beat me. If the opp makes a small bet (1/2 pot or less), I'll call, but I will fold to any sizeable bet by them. Once again, betting here is only going to get called by a better hand and fold out the worse hands and I want the opposite of that to happen. When the opp raises here, I need to muck as I'm beat basically everytime. Hope this helps and good luck at the tables.umbup: John (JWK24)

                Brilliant!

You've done all 3 tasks and you'll get your first bonus in the next 24 hours, good job!

                Step Two

Use your first buy-in to only play the 1/2 cent real money FULL RING tables on PokerStars. Do not play any other type of game other than this. Post one hand that you had difficulty with here in this thread using the hand replayer and we will analyze it for you.

Please watch the following video and answer the question below.

List 3 reasons why a player may want to make a big bet?

Then study the Cash Game Course course and once your happy have a go at attempting the quiz. Don't rush through the course, there's a lot of content there and the quiz is tricky so spend some time on this.

So you have 3 things to do to earn your next bonus.

                1) Play the 1/2 cent Real Money tables and post an interesting hand here in the Forum using the Hand Replayer.
                2) Watch the Bet Sizing video and answer the question below it.
                3) Study and pass the Cash Game quiz.

Let us know as soon as you have all 3 tasks complete and we will award you with your next buy-in.

                Best of Luck!

Hey HokyPokyToo, I have pass the cash game course. My answer for the question is: A player make a big bets to put a pressure on opponents, to bluff and to gain value from very strong hands. And this is a hand I have played on a real money table: Even I win, but I'm not sure about this hand play when I raised with 56s preflop, could it be a right strategy?

Hi VuLjbero! I'll take a look at this hand for you.

65s is about the worst hand I'd play, and I'd usually only use it for a blind steal when I'm on the button and only if all the players that might get involved have deep stacks. (Speculative drawing hands benefit from stack sizes that give you implied odds of winning a big pot). Here the stacks are far too short. Occasionally I'd open 65s in the CO (where you were here) but only if my reads were that the 3 players still to act (button and blinds) were very tight. Until you get more post-flop experience, I'd advise you to avoid playing suited connectors, as they can get you into trouble. Stick with pairs and big aces, as they are much easier to play, as it's just a matter of hitting top pair or a set and value-betting.

Here's there's a limp, so if you play this hand, the standard raise would be (3bb + 1bb for limper) = 4bb = 8c. I recommend the larger raise, because you don't really want a villain to call. You just want to take the dead money in the middle.
Your 6c raise gets called by the limper and you see a flop.
This is a pretty good flop for you, as you have an open-ended straight draw (8 outs). Instead of checking to the raiser, villain donks out. He only makes it half pot, so you can call this bet and see if you improve on the turn. Villain might have a draw himself, but usually this lead out bet represents a one-pair hand, such as 9x.
On the turn, you make a straight. It's not the nut straight, as villain could have JT. Nevertheless, if you play small suited connectors, you have to be prepared to get your money in when you hit one of your draws, especially in heads up situations, where it's unlikely villain has a better hand. (If you're not prepared to stack off when your speculative hand hits the board hard, then don't play it in the first place!)
So raising here is good. Normally, your sizing (a min-raise) would be a mistake (a standard raise would be 3x), but here it's OK, because it puts villain all in and he's drawing dead.
                      Nice hand!

                      Cheers,
                      Arty
