  • Happy St Andrews Day

Thursday was the switching on of the Christmas lights in Edinburgh city centre, and the first day of the 'Winter Wonderland' - lots of fun stuff like ice skating in Princes Street Gardens, the Giant Wheel (somewhere between a Big Wheel and the London Eye) next to the always spectacular Scott Monument, a helter skelter and other fairground rides, and hot Gluhwein and your choice of sausage and other meat based products at the German Market on the Mound - (all within a 15 minute walk from my penthouse suite...)

And the weather has gone from very wet and cold to very crisp dry cold, so there was a nice frosting on the trees too.

As we are now past midnight and it is Friday - it is St Andrews day, when the Scots traditionally drink a lot and listen to kilted bearded men squeezing some weird noises out of a bag with pipes coming out of it. So much like any other night, but just a little bit more. This goes on until Burns night, in late January, taking in the minor Scottish holiday of Christmas and the major one of Hogmanay - (its a long haul and I do my best but I can't keep up so much these days).

And in January - just before Burns Night - Pokerstars hits Edinburgh for the UKIPT Live tournament at the Balmoral Hotel - which I will try to give you some info on in a different place here at PSO.

I'll be at Edinburgh Castle tomorrow, always free entry on St Andrews day, so me and every Scotsman who fits the stereotype will cram ourselves in.

    Whatever your day holds, enjoy.
