  • Hello

Hello fellow Pokerists, I have only been playing poker for about 5 months, and thought i would share my findings with you. Decided to go-in at the deep-end and invested £15 and started playing $1 sit & go games(max 27 players). to my amazement i got to a couple of final tables and, wait for it.......Won 1 umbup: So thats it,i've been playing for 5 months and already i have this poker lark cracked . WRONG got cocky and took some big busts,so with my £15 plus winnigs soon gone it was time to check out the pokerschool for some much needed advice. I must say the advice and tuition information on Pokerstars is second to none and i have learnt a lot in a short space of time. Question??? what to do next umm,i know,i'll have a go at the freeroll pokerskill league,i mean they are all newbies like me,how hard can it be. HELP,,,not so much i'm a celebrity get me out of here more,i'm a poker player get me put of here, the place is insane all-in's flying about all over the place, pretty much impossible to read any players hands at the start. Still, perservience(sp)is the key to something or other,so i have been keeping at it(with little success . The biggest problem i think i have is i play quite tight, don't bluff, don't try to steal blinds and generally keep things tight,i have found this strategy to be pretty good in the early stages but,my next problem is,if i manage to get over halfway through the tournament i then find i have a short stack and get bullied by bigger stacks, panic,go all in with a silly hand and,hey ho i've busted. So that sums up my 5 months of playing poker, hope you enjoyed reading my 1st inane rambling(there will be more to come no doubt. Best of luck to you all in your poker quests.

    Hi v438cs,

Welcome to PokerSchoolOnline! Don't worry, the vast majority of us have gone busto at one time or another. It's good to hear you're sticking at it and trying to build from nothing, it can be done! I would suggest to check out this thread for advice on the Open Skill League, as it plays very differently to most tourneys you will experience. As for the rest your tight style probably isn't far off the mark. Why not check out our courses and maybe some videos or live training? You'll find a bunch of stuff on tourney play and with some work you could find yourself getting those deeper runs.

Here is a link to help familiarize you with all the features and services available at PSO. Feel free to look around the forum and post any of your comments or questions.

      Hi Chris,

Thank you for your quick response,it's good to hear my tight play is not completely wrong,i will check out the link you sent me,i watch a lot of poker on the TV and the pros make it look easy(which i now know it is not,if i get A4 offsuit and bet and then get re-raised i panic and fold lol,the pros seem not to and make continuations bets, looks like i have a lot to learn.
