  • Premier League Tactics

It's looking like I will get promoted to the premier league this month, which will be my first time in the three months I've been here. I've been using the time bank in the open league for the first time this month and it has worked like a charm, so thanks to everyone who suggested it. umbup: With this in mind I want to check if there were any tactics like this that are worth using in the premier league. I'm guessing that time banking is no longer affective as the players are better and don't shove any two cards and go out early. Does this mean I can use the normal MTT tactics or should it be slightly more cautious early on when there are negative points. For instance if I get KK or even AA in the first three blinds in the open league I would fold to an all-in (while my love for poker decreases slightly). Should I be using the same approach in the premier league or is it worth the risk? Thanks in advance, and I hope I see some of you in the premier league next month. Good luck on the felt!

The usual recommended Open League tactics will not work in the Premier League. It plays much more like a standard small field MTT. It has a much smaller field (a few hundred) and a slower attrition rate, with deeper starting stacks and more 'standard' play. Time banking will not usually be beneficial - you need to see hands and play with viable hands to maintain and improve your stack. You cannot time out and fold to a +ve points situation like you can in the OSL Folding every hand will get you negative points. A few deep runs, to ITM or even to FT, are possible each month if you can play one or more tourneys a day - the deep runs you make should more than make up for several early exits, so don't be afraid to play the strong hands even early in a tourney - and at some point you will need to gamble with viable hands, to win flips etc in order to get those deep runs. With smaller fields you will come across the same players at your table more often over the course of the month - so try to be aware and get to know your opponents tendencies. Much more fun and much better poker than OSL. Good luck - see you there next month. Ed from Edinburgh - EdinFreeMan

I agree with Ed 100% on this. The ones that I watch play more like a normal MTT than the open league.

Ed's nailed it. You'll soon learn who's loose, who's tight and who's a complete tit!

See you at the tables next month!

That's what I was hoping for, it sounds like I can start to play real poker and hopefully improve my MTT game. Time to go brush up on my game and go over the course again. Thanks for the replies, and hopefully I'll see some of you on the felts next month, maybe even on a final table if I get lucky umbup:

This is actually an article about: "www.pokerschoolonline.com/articles/MTT-PSO-Skill-League-Strategy". Not that I would follow it though, but here's some extra tips in case you want to be a 100% sure.
