  • Hold'em manager and other software

I just assumed that stuff was either illegal or malware. I just saw that PSO is holding a lesson on using PokerTracker and Hold'em Manager. Anyone use them? Any reason to not use one?

All perfectly legal per Pokerstars Terms of Service. Good luck and look forward to seeing you at the class.

The only thing about these that seem unfair to least on Holdem Manager, not sure about Poker that it allows you to see mucked cards of your opponents. That's insight that you'd never have in a real live poker game as those cards are guarded well by the dealer, and seems a bit underhanded to me.

Otherwise, it's mostly just a composition of common, public knowledge that you could learn and gather on your own if you were so inclined and some analysis tools, though much more user friendly and readily available.

The hands showed by HEM are available via the hand history to anyone dealt into the hand.

Gotcha....thanks for the correction. I didn't realize that was available in hand history. Still not necessarily available in live games, but if it's in the game software, then obviously, no misuse of information.

Personally I think Live and Internet poker are two different animals. The amount of software available and websites with stats on players is phenomenal for internet play.

For live players I understand a book or some other method of note taking is required.

I use Hold Em Manager, but more as a tool to look for leaks in my game and to be able to replay hands and situations at my leisure. I will use HEM live during cash games, but during tourneys, I find it clutters more than helps.

Thanks for the insights. I like the idea of getting the hand history without having to click previous and then visualize (I need pictures!). I will give them a try.

Hey, you can be damned sure in a live game if I see someone show their hand to their neighbor before mucking, I call out to the dealer that I want to see it.

Does it tick people off? Yeah. But at most casinos the standard rule is, show one, show all.
