  • How can this be ?

Was playing this game last night, got up this morning to see who won and noticed the maniac of the game managed 2nd place but paid more than if he had won ???? Here I am setting up Yanque as I know he wont let this go without raising and Im going to shove over him with my Monster hand with the A I was thinking no won can have AAxx I will show them. OOPS some one else was trying to trap the maniac.

The Final Table players ( those that were left ) must have made a deal towards the end of the game. umbup:

      Hey Bill,

But why would they let him have more than 1st place prize money ?

As you may or may not be aware deals are allowed to be made at the final table in many MTTs and in these deals the money can be split any way that all remaining players agree to. In this case the player who finished 2nd got more than first place money which is uncommon but does happen from time to time. The likelyhood is that this player had the lions share of the chips in play and the other two players wanted to make a deal to reduce the money jumps and lock up more than 3rd place money. In order to do this they must have had to give a little to the chip leader to get him to agree to making a deal and thus he ended up with more than 1st place money.

Making deals is definately an art and having a chip lead is a huge advantage. Dave actually done a class on making deals that you can find here if you're interested.

          Thanks Fadyen,

No Way would I ever agree to a deal like that.

I agree with you chuckkky, I wouldn't make a deal like that either. I mean fair enough to give up a few % to a monster stack to get a deal done and save losing out to the big money jumps but to give up more than 1st place money seems a bit ridiculous.

Watch the Sunday Millions a few times, you will see deals made quite often.

I watched one last year where the final SIX made a deal.

The player who was in sixth place at the time of the deal went on to win and the chip leader came second.

The eventual winner took home just over three quarters of the second placed players winnings, and even the player who went out in third had a few more dollars winnings than the first placed.

It's because when a deal is made, it's not the end of the game -- usually you say "ok you take x%, i'll take y%, and let's play for the remainder". So in this deal they probably said 1,000 to Yanque, 591 to Maotj, 500 to mino, and whoever actually wins gets the remaining 150; and mino went on to win it.
