    For the school, it's against the rules to ask for or to post passwords.
    I agree with the reply that you received, that these events have a password, so that only the people that follow the given events can get in. Giving them out to people that don't listen or sub, could lead to a member being removed from their tournaments... that's up to whomever is running the tournament.

    There are a lot of people that just give out these passwords to people that don't deserve to get into a given tournament (random value hunters) and it's not cool to do so.
