  • I wanna play a live tourney...

I live in NYC, been playing PSO tourneys for a couple of months, and have been thinking of making a trip to Atlantic City or Foxwoods for a live tourney.

With the popularity of poker these days, I've heard that there are long waits for sign-ups.

I want to gain some experience, and just see what live tourney poker feels like.

Anybody have any advice, good or bad experiences at certain casinos, know some good low-entry fee tourneys (<500 bucks,) best times to play, lots of players but no waits or waiting list, etc. etc.

Someone has probably answered all of the above, but I haven't come across it in my forum hunts. Thanks in advance!

    Heya Flotaking.

Yeah, the poker scene in Atlantic City has become pretty crazy, even more so in the last 6 months or so. Used to be that I could go to AC after work and sign in for a tournament about 30 mins before it started. Now, at the Tropicanca, if I'm not there right when regristration starts (2hrs. prior) I don't get in.

Personally, my favorite place to play a live Tournament is the Tropicana. There are cheap nights, Monday and Thurs, where it is $30 buy in + $10 registration (unlimited rebuys 1st hr. and one add on so its kind of crazy first hour). !80 people play in that one and the payout is usually 4000-5000 for 1st. They also have other larger buyins 100-150 where there is not rebuys but one add on. I love the Tues. night one. $100+20 $10,000 guarented (bad sp I know). I've been fortunate to win this one twice. After you are done with the tournament, you can go downstairs and usually get a room for $40-50 (go after midnight that's when they start getting desperate to fill up).

Usually after spending the night, I'll roll over to the Borgata casino which has morning tournaments $40-50+10(unlimited rebuys + add ons). That cardroom is pretty nice also, and in my experience will chop more when down to 5-6 players. At the Trop. there is almost always one person who will never want to chop. Anyway, good luck when you go down there; its a fun time!

Just keep in mind that the smaller the buy-in the shorter the levels.

Small buy-in tournies tend to degenerate into crap shoots fairly quickly. The only comparable format here at PSO might be the $500-added freerolls, but even those might offer more time to actually play poker than the live tournies.

harrahs (AC) has decent structure as they are freeze-out (no rebuys) but only happen 5-6 times a month. Tropicana sundays are one of my favorites as well.
