  • Detroit-Toledo etc.

There really is no better forum for this, so.....

This is a report on several tournaments or clubs or casinos in the greater Detroit & Toledo area. Everyone in the general area is welcome to add reports from near or semi-near here or there.

I am going to start with three reports and I invite additions, particular on recent experiences at casino cardrooms like: Greektown, Motor City, Sarnia and Soaring Eagle.

    My reports:
    1) MoTownPoker
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/motownpoker/
For those who don't know, there are lots of poker groups using the Yahoo! Groups for their site. I played this past Sunday with motownpoker. Currently they are in the middle of a ten tournament cycle, each event is on a Sunday (most are in Ferndale) points are accumulated by your finish in each event and the highest point totals play for some WSOP seats. Good news, its a friendly, well-run, self-dealt game, usually on Sunday afternoons. Bad news, the multi-tournament format means there is a lot of ladder climbing. The event Sunday played like a $500 PSO event. It was slow and careful with few if any maniacs. Since event 6 of 10 is next, I am going to sit-out of the motown events until the new cycle starts. BTW the buy-ins are $100 with $20 going to the final event prize pool and expenses. 134 players last Sunday $3K+ for 1st.

    2) MetroPokerClub
    http://www.metropokerclub.com
In the interest of fairness, I have never played with Metro Poker Club, which is because of all the bad things I have heard about it.
First, its $100 to join. Second, the payouts are very top heavy.
Third, when you add up the buy-ins and compare the total to the payouts, it is clear that someone is making a lot of money and it ain't the players.
Anyone with more information, please post here but until I hear differently, I am avoiding Metro Poker Club. Good website though.

    3)ToldeoCharityGaming
    http://www.toledocharitygaming.org
I played a few months ago for a spot in the TV FinalTableChallenge.
The newest tournament there is a four flight playin for $1500 WSOP seats. Basically, they run two events on Friday and two on Saturday, all NLHE. Top 10% of each flight (you can play multiples) go on to Sunday. Everyone playing Sunday is "in the money." And the winners (as many as 3) win $1500 NLHE seats in the 2005 WSOP plus airfare and room. There are side ring games, the management is average and getting better.

I am playing this Friday (10/29) and will report back.

Please add your reviews and local reports.
How is that NLHE game at Greektown these dayz?

    My report:
Thanks to a visit by the President to Toledo the tournament had to be moved but 89 players showed up for the Friday afternoon session. Meaning 9 seats for the Sunday finals were in play. I do not have one.
    Observations:
    1) lots of new dealers and although I am usually of the "everyone has to learn somewhere" school; several of these new dealers had been given no instruction on following the action and one actually could not shuffle. It was, for about an hour, the slowest game I have ever been in;
    2) when I busted out 31st with 2 1/2 hours before the evening session I could not bring myself to sit in a ring game to kill time, so I only played one session yesterday.
    3) the Friday & Saturday "flight" format for Sunday finals continues on the following weekends:
    Nov. 5-7, Nov. 19-21, Nov 26-29, Dec. 10-11, Dec. 17-19, Dec. 31-Jan 2.
Each flight event is limited to 250 players with the top 10% in each flight moving on to the Sunday Finals.
All Sunday players are in the money as advertised:
"All events listed have an anticipated Prize Pool of $40,000 plus 4 WSOP seats!"

I will be playing in future events.
