  • Intentional Clash of Dates?

Interesting to see that the WPT Grand Final, which was announced for April 22nd - 26th 2014, also clashes with the Grand Final of the European Poker Tour which will be held on April 23rd - May 3rd of next year. Was this an intentional clash of dates? Is it good for the sport?

Not really sure if it's intentional or not. I know PokerStars live events guys try as hard as they can to schedule around other previously announced poker festivals in order to make sure they get as big attendance as possible but I suppose they can't always do that. There's often a small overlap in some things like EPT London and WSOPE but usually they allow the majority to play the bulk of events from both.

I personally think it's good for the game as it gives players more options, who doesn't like options? Also good for those that can only travel so far if one option allows them to play. On the other hand it may mean both events suffer in attendance which nobody wants but with so many players playing the circuit these day there'll still be huge prize pools. I have a feeling in this case though it'll be the WPT losing out more than the EPT.

I am assuming that WPT made their announcement later, as originally when they said it was moving to Borgata and dropping to $15k it was going to be in May.

I think WPT probably accepts it wont get the EPT crowd unless it schedules it to be convenient with WSOP or PCA, also WPT world champs has been pretty niche for several years ~150 players probably means the EPT juggernaut couldn't care less. I assumed moving it out of the hated Bellagio and reducing the buy in meant they were hoping for bigger fields, I don't think it will happen.

EPT Grand Final is a week after San Remo so you cant imagine that the euro grinders will fancy it. The WPT will say players can hop over to Europe and still play 1b of EPT Grand Final, but I just don't see many doing San Remo - WPT - Monte Carlo.
