  • Live Daily MTT's

I've decided I'm going to play some local games this next week. The casino nearest my place offers a Friday $55+$5 tournament, and a Saturday $90+$10 tournament, which both seem like great deals as live MTT rake goes. It's been a while since I played live, and I've never been to this casino. It should be an interesting experience.

I'm funding my entries using my existing online bankroll. I figure that since I've proven myself capable of building a roll from $45, there's nothing wrong with withdrawing some of it to have some fun and take a shot at a decent score. I withdrew a little over half of my roll today, which will give me three live tournament buy-ins, and that still leaves me enough money to continue grinding the $3.5 STT's or 45-man's, which is what I'm playing right now anyway.

If I do well, I'm considering setting aside a live bankroll to play these games regularly. From what I hear, live games are super-soft. I'm not rolled to play them regularly yet, but if it's soft, costs more than a dollar, and it's NLHE, I want in. I might as well take steps to get there.

The reason I'm posting this is to let you guys know what I'm up to, and to get tips or feedback about my game plan, mindset, and how to approach live daily MTT's. There are a lot of people here who have more live experience than me (i.e. anybody who has ever played live twice), so I'm sure there's a lot of stuff I can learn from this thread. Anything you guys want to post would be helpful.

Anyway, thanks for reading, thanks for posting, and hopefully I'll have some good results to bring back next weekend.

Been hearing about this Friday tourney there, some one mentioned it to me in passing couple months ago. Was talking to Opis about Fraser Downs opening up a poker room.
All I ever see going in that place is old folks from senior homes,so it should be interesting to see how that place turns out.

Good luck with the live play. Interested to hear what you think.

Hey Panicky! The key in these is going to be to make it past the second hour (should be where the antes kick in from my daily casino experiences in the past). Also, when looking at your stack size from about 1/2 way thru the 2nd hour on... do NOT look at them in relation to how many BB you have left, look at your stack sizes compared to the other players. By the 3rd hour, almost everyone will be a short stack. Good luck.umbup: John (JWK24)

That's interesting. I guess the structure must be fast if the deepest stacks are all short stacks. I like turbos, but that't extra turbo. I might end up annoying some people with how often I jam the pot. Gonna need to memorize my unexploitable shove chart before I go.

I re-read your thread and trip report, Austerror, and there was some awesome info there. But I'm still confused about something... how do I order a soft drink while I'm at the table?

$2500 starting stack and 20 minute blinds.
Says they will reserve 25% of field over the phone one hour prior to start.

                - Dont mention online,if brought up just nod in agreement about it being rigged..lol
                - Wash your hands after playing sometimes the chips are sticky..uggh
                - Keep track of the blinds, quickest way to be outed as new
                - Dont give out free info,I throw my cards in the muck pretty quick if I am beat, always a guy wanting to see a hand and they tilt not being able to see it.
                - Dont over read physical tells, sometimes they are totally opposite then you would think
                - Expect a heavy reg group and watch prior to the tourney who interacts with who

I doubt anyone will have much trouble figuring out I'm new, but I'm definitely going to be careful not to screw anything up like not knowing the blind level or acting out of turn. I'm okay giving out info, I just don't want to embarrass myself.

So... I shouldn't say this, right? "Hi guys! I'm a moderator for a site that teaches people how to play poker better. I've been playing online for quite some time now, and it's definitely not rigged. I think I'm actually a pretty good player, as you can see on this copy of my Sharkscope graph. Make sure none of you guys make any forward motion and bring your chips back, I don't want to have to deal with any angle-shooting nonsense."

                  That's bad, right?
