  • Las Vegas Trip Report 2008

My flight on Spirit Airlines out of Detroit was scheduled to leave bright and early at 6:00 am Sunday, July 7th, 2008. This meant that I had to get up at 2:00 am to make sure that I was there in plenty of time.

After getting up at the crack of night I gassed up the car and headed out. I was excited and nervous at the same time. I love to travel and have done short weekend trips by myself, but this would be the first time I have traveled cross country to play poker with people I have only meet online.

The first luck of the day began with an empty middle seat on the way out. My plane landed on time and I took the shuttle to the Orleans. It was an interesting ride, we got up close and personal with the City Center construction. If you have the time to kill, taking the shuttle is a cheap way to go. It was fifteen bucks round trip.

When I got to the Orleans I stored my luggage with the bell hop and went to get myself a card from the slot club. I ate breakfast at the Courtyard. I had the House Skillet, eggs, potatos, bacon all in one dish, it wasn't very good.

With my tummy full it was time to put some money in the machines. I sat at a progressive video poker machine and won my first Royal Flush on a quarter machine. I used my winnings to pay for all of my tournaments for the rest of the week.

Around 11:30 am I started getting tired and went to check in. No problems there. Went up to my room, check it out and took a nap for a couple of hours. I got up around 3:00 pm, showered, changed and headed off to Koji's for dinner. I love sushi and this is one of the places I always eat at while in Las Vegas.

Headed to the mixer at the Mardi Gras Bar to meet some of the famous PSO people. I usually take a while to warm up to new people and usually sit back and watch. This time I decided to just jump in and introduce myself to everyone. I met the famous Al Spath and lots of great PSO'ers that I will list later.

It was a little noisy because of the drawing that the casino was having right next to the bar. It's amazing how long they can take to announce the winner of these silly drawings. I didn't win, of course I didn't put in a ticket either.

Mosyed around the casino for a little while after the mixer then headed off to bed, needed my sleep for the early morning tournament.

    .............to be continued
