  • Peppermill Reno Spring Poker

    Hey guys....

Hylndr, Big Jerry, and myself arrived in Reno on Friday for the start of their Spring Poker Event. Hylndr and Big Jerry got off to quick starts as they each won $530 in single-table satellite victories for a measly $60 buy-in. I lost heads-up to Big Jerry in his victory -- all-in one hand after turning down 25% of the payout when I had asked for only 30% !

I also played a multi-table Limit Hold Em tourney on Friday night (BJ and Hylndr sat that one out, as they both strongly prefer No Limit). I busted fairly early with a bad beat that I won't bore you with.

Yesterday, however, turned out to be my day. Big Jerry and I both entered a $120/$100 rebuy Limit HE event that had 154 players. The blind rounds were 30 mins long, and some 10 hours after starting the noon event, I finally busted out in 6th place, for a $1037 payout!
Needless to say, I was and am very excited to have done this well in a relatively large tourney. Please forgive me for relaying how I busted out (BAD BEAT STORY FOLLOWS): on the button with AA, blinds $2000/4000 playing 4,000/8,000 limits. I have about $16,000 in chips, and there are 400,000 chips in play. I raise preflop. Big blind calls with big stack.
Flop comes Q 8 4 rainbow. BB checks, I bet, he calls. Turn comes J, I bet all-in, he hesitates before calling. I flip up my rockets, and he flips up 3 9 spades. He has no spade draw, and his only 4 outs are the four 10s. River brings the miracle straight and I'm done -- frustrated, tired, and happy all at the same time.

The three of us didn't play much poker today, but there are two No Limit tourneys tomorrow that we will all be playing. I'll update you later. Ciao.

Congrats on your win. And that was a bad beat.
