    Not a long story...

I been busting my butt at work for the last month..delivering tons of babies and been really itching to play some live poker...yesterday was to be the perfect time to do it...wife and kids out of town visting relatives, i was done early in the office, and there was only one patient on labor and delivery who was being induced and was very early on in her labor process....

So I head out to Trump Casino in East Chicago, Indiana to see whats goin on..there is a 100 buy in satellite tourney for the US poker champinships.... A relatively cheap tourney! No rebuys! Only 80 players! PERFECT FOR ME! Final ten players win seat to the Supersat at a later date...

To make a long story short...Im playing well, tight but aggressive and accumulating alot of chips, setting up some nice traps...knocking several people out....quite amazing actually since I was getting bombarded with pages from the hospital throughout the tourney...boy was it annoying and very difficult to concentrtate...

So with 19 players left Im second in chips at my table...when all of sudden I get paged....again....my patient who I figured wouldnt deliver until today was complete and ready to push...I told the nurse to put a plug in it or sumthing and that I was doing sumthing extremely important...(just kidding about that last sentence)...I told the tournament director that I had to leave for an emergency and asked him to call me to tell me if I place or not...

Well, my patient delivered a beautiful baby girl..and in the middle of the delivery the tournament director had called and left a message on my voicemail telling me that I placed 11th and that he was very sorry...

...such is the life of an OBGYN wannabe poker player... :

      Man ... Noel,

What a total bummer and a great story.

You got what it takes. But your job has to make up for all you do. What you do for so many people is during the happiest moment in their lives, don't ever forget that, Doc.

      Did you tell the couple?

Are they going to name the baby Noel or Bubbles?

Let me see...the main event at the USPC is a $10,000 buy-in. What can we add to the hospital bill to get the insuance company to pay your way in... hmmm there has to be a way...

Congrats on your play Noel...if only more people had thier priorities in order, as you obviously do the world would be a better place.
