  • Going for Silver...

After more than doubling my bankroll, I will try to go for Silver status next month. I will play 3.5 SNG. I need to play at least 11 games each day (less if I will play on weekends). I will use the Cowboy challenge format as my stop gap. I will reserve a portion of my bankroll for 30 games. 9-man SNG is not my strong game at moment, but that's where I initially build up my bankroll. So I hope I can get back at it again.

I will do an initial run the remaining of this month and if I do ok, I will push it through November.

    Summary
    Starting Bankroll: $105
    Game Format: $3.5 SNG (regular)

Try to depend your blinds with 3 betting from late position steal when you still have 16-21BB.

Hope it helps to get some respect.

You are right PH, I dont get to 3bet a lot. With 16-21bb, do you 3bet SHOVE vs steal with any card? or do you just reraise x2 - x3? Thanks for the input PH.

Your back to back final tables in the Big Bang was very impressive, and gives you a lot to build on. Good luck with this challenge!

I realize your silverstar target is for next month but you have been playing far under 11 games/day.
Do you think you will be able to maintain that volume for a whole month?

How many tables are you playing?

Hi TweedleBeetl, right now I just want to know if I have the skill to beat this level of SNG or at least just break even. I do multi-table. I can handle about 9, but will probably go for 6 tables each session and do 2 2-hour sessions each day. I think playing volume is not a problem. The problem is multi-tabling and knowing you are just losing money. That will be the brick wall I have to overcome. So hopefully, after this warm up, I will have full confidence to tackle the challenge.

                          Great.
I have also been doing trial runs at these games. Maybe we will both be playing them next month.

At any new level you should drop the amount of tables and concentrate on building your database of players and notes.

There won't be too much of a difference between $1.50 and $3.50 games but I have noticed there are a few very decent regs that play this level and upwards some of whom can make a living at the game. Identify these players and (depending on what game you play) avoid them if you can. A decent reg will make it so much harder for you to cash so table select games with weak players and players you haven't played before that are one tabling.

I think table selection is one of the most important things you can do. When I played Limit STTs I was a top shark at the $1.50 but I struggled at $3.50 and upwards because there were a few players as good or better than me. The player pool is pretty small in these types of games and I really couldn't avoid them. Considering 6 max only pays top 2 places it was a dogfight in every game as to who made the cash.

                            Good luck!

                              Update on my Cowboy Challenge

A good run today. Played 2 sessions. Each session I played 4 tables. There are some advantages to playing multi-table.

                              1. It keeps you alert and more focused on the games - you have no time to do things other than play poker (ie, no facebook, no youtube, etc.)

                              2. You also have no time to sob on your bad beats, or else the other tables suffer.

                              3. Minimizes creativity during play. You don't easily get bored thus you don't play many speculative hands which will only cost you chips.

The important thing you should consider when multi-tabling is, you should not be a particularly bad player, and you have to really find your sweet spot. There is such thing as too many tables.
