  • Looking 4 Help setting Goals/Challenge to help maintain steady BRoll...

    Hi guys, first off, thanx 4 reading b4 we even start!!

    I guess from the title of the post you might think i want help with BRM, thats not really what im after.

    I have been doing ok as of late, my BR was floating around the $100+ mark for a long time, wasn't growing much at all, i guess you could say a break even player, my current OPR stats seem to reflect that statement..

    I no i can be a WINNING player, i just need a little help getting there and staying there!

    Just last week i had 2 decent runs, making Final Tables and accumulating a few dollars, growing my small BRoll to over $377, nice little touch!

    What my problem now is i guess, since then i've had a disaster of a time, lol, sticking to a farely tight BRM scheme i have seen that $377, drop to around $220..

    I had been playing $2.50 90 mans and my regular MTT schedule, up to around $3/4 buy ins...

    I have already stated my intention to do the Cowboy's Challenge this month @ the $2.50 level, but what i'm wondering is does any one have any other or better ideas that will help me grow my Micro Roll whilst also not goin busto, lol..

    After my little wins last week, growing my Roll and now seeing it go im panicking, lol, want some advice my old friends, help an IRISH man in distress, lol.....

    Brian,

    First, have you set some goals and do you know how you will achieve them?
    I guess NOT

    I see that you've played anything you want
    $1,$2,$4, $5,$8, $10, Satellites, turbo, regular
    So what are you good at?

    I would suggest you first set up your goals, which includes time for learning (reading, videos and going over your hands). Then the type of game you want to master or at least get good at, how many hours you're willing to put to achieve those goals.

    Most if not all good players have set up goals for the year, so that's why you see so many losing players, none have goals.

    But who am I to tell you this, I've just passed the $1,000 mark in 3 months by following my goals, you'll find it here:

    Good luck

      The best goals I know of are volume goals and study goals. Pick a game you like (e.g. $2.50 90-mans), aim to play a lot of it (say, 100 per week over a two-month span), and just focus on the game. Once you have your plan set up, you can stop focusing on things that tilt you (like your BR), and you can start focusing on things that will improve your game (like your actual gameplay).

      IMO, the best way to improve your game is to study, and play without the stress of busting. To lose BR stress, I need about 100 buy-ins for my 9-man SNG's. Anything less and I stress out a bit and my game suffers. Stress might not be an issue for you, but whatever might be causing you problems, find out what it is and rout it quickly.

        @Sandtrap777

        Thanks very much for your input and comments, i checked out your link to your thread, very very impressive stuff, really got me thinking, i read your thread from start to finish and enjoyed it alot, i hadn't seen it until today, i would urge you to continue posting in that thread and not stop like u have suggested you might be doing.

        @Sandtrap777 & @PanickyPoker

        I will agree with you's that i have been very sporadic in my game selections, a few different level buy in's, MTTs, SnGs though not as much but i am starting to play alot more, turbo's on occasion but i do prefer slower blind levels for sure.
        I also seem to have most success in CAPPED fields, ie; smaller fields i guess you could say, larger field MTTs seem to be proving more difficult.
        As for training, reviewing Hand Histories and general Poker study, i do a little, i have attended a few live training sessions, started to see alot more recently, i have poker books here in my house, quite a few actually, 7.. I will be honest i have not read them all.

        I want to thank you both again for your comments and suggestions, i am going to try and organize myself a little better, set some realistic goals or targets and try succeed..

        Sandtrap, i will ask you a quick question, from your thread it seems like you have this topic down to a science, mapped out for the month..
        I recently held silver star status for a couple months, but failed to reach the 750vpps in March to keep it. What would you suggest is the best way to get there again and stay there? Or would you even bother with that goal, i mean is it even important? Dya no what i mean?

        Thanx guys...

          Brian, Thank You VPP's are the last thing to worry about. My goal was to be Gold, but Silver is also OK. The main thing is to have positive winnings and then the VPP's will fall into place. In February I tried compensating and played higher stakes, which was a no no. This was a thread on how to set up personal poker goals http://www.pokerschoolonline.com/for...864#post311864 It's really to bad that PSO doesn't consider goals as learning. It should be in poker education, trainers should have a video on the subject. But noooooo, they think it's better in Community meet-up, that's probably why you didn't see it and that many others haven't seen it either. If you need help, PM me and unfortunately, my blogging site is already up and will gladly give it to you, just PM me. Good luck umbup:
