  • What are the odds?

I was playing in the Premiere League last night and I get dealt T8 5 times in a row, what are the odds of that happening?

My guess would be 1 in 1326

I'll take a stab at this:

The cards are the same, but not identical suits. So it would be same odds as being dealt any random hand. If they were of the same suit, then...wow. Still, you would have to play a lot of hands before seeing something like T8 five times in a row.

The odds being dealt any random hand is 52 x 51 / 2 = 1326 (also ignoring order)

      Therefore the answer is 1326 x 1326 x 1326 x 1326 x 1326

      But I could be wrong....

        Should of said:
The odds of getting T8 5 times in a row (no matter the suit)

There's 1326 possible combinations of 2 cards in a deck
        There's 16 possible T8
        There's 1 in 82.875 of hitting T8

So 5 times in a row would be 1 in 3,909,468,400

        Does that make sense?

Yes, factor in combinations, that makes more sense. That is still a lot of hands. I would rather be dealt AA five times in row, but not during a freeroll.

Yeh that sounds about right. Seems insane but when you think over 114 BILLION hands have been dealt on Stars it kind of makes sense that it's happened.

I think I had AA on 5 tables all at once, it was either a high improbability or the random generator got stuck or something

Worst one that I get all the time is that hand on table #1 is always the nuts for table #2

i think if it came out one more time the rng would of self imploded

Nice clip, Spand. It's kind of funny that riggies claim to have spotted patterns in the RNG, when a random deck has more permutations than there are atoms on the Earth.

Basically it's a video explaining how many combinations of 52 cards there is, nothing to do with my post, but still an interesting video.

I've watched almost all of TED-ed videos, they are great
