  • What Makes A Bad Beat Truly Bad?

Here is my latest 'Bad Beat'... I think I am about 66% favourite preflop - fairly standard for two big unpaired cards versus two small unpaired cards. I ranged the opp pretty wide - and they were at the bottom of the wide range - about as bad as it gets as cards go - but on the other hand I do not think the shove was bad play at all - as I could not call without a decent holding myself. So what made it feel worse than a usual bad beat? Obviously losing to 82o is never a good experience in any way. The fact that the the opps two live cards 'missed' but ran up a straight is pretty harsh. I busted 22nd on this hand - (from about 12th before we got it in) winning the hand would have given me a great chance of an FT and a top finish. It came after a sequence of games where I ran good 'worse' hands into monsters - QQ into AA, KK into AA, QQ into AK that flopped the K. So - there are bad beats and bad beats - I don't pay too much attention to them - but when they hit you hard I realise how they can really affect you. I was out of this tourney (a PSO Premier League game btw) and still in some other games - so I was pleased this did not affect my mindset or game at the other tables - it was a bitter pill to swallow - but we all know it is going to happen - and even the worst of beats are just bad beats. Good luck all Ed from Edinburgh - EdinFreeMan

Personally, I think the worst bad beat is when you flop the nuts and your opponent catches runner runner to beat you, or catches a one outer on the river. Those still kinda bug me...
