When I first moved to Toronto in 1998, I had been playing, and dealing at the old Ontario roving Casinos for some time. I also played in various home games both standard and underground.
Since I was out of work (moved for my wife's new job) I decided to try and grind an income from the permanent mini-casino in Port Perry. The main problem was the 80 km. drive which meant starting about $20 in the hole daily.
The stakes were 5-10 limit (2-5 and 10-20 also available.
The first day I started card dead and did not play a hand until more than 3 rounds of the table (22.50 in blinds) had passed. I raised with JJ, got 3 callers, hit trips (J47 flop) and got a reraising single opponent. Turn was an 8, river was a 10, and sure enough J9 was beat my trips.Long enough 4 outs after the turn, almost dead in the water on the flop.
That would hardly make a bad beat story in my mind, so on I go. I did end up grinding out a small win from a down $100 after first hand played that day.
Day 2 of my experiment started even more card dead than day 1, so it was after 4+ rounds of the table when I entered my first pot by raising QQ. The flop was Q47 and a raising max ensued with one opponent. The turn was a K and the river was a 4 giving me a loss to quad 4's.
The moral of this story is to try to show from real life Casino bad beats that online is not the only place it gets freaky.
