Hey all, hope your September was profitable in the PSO and elsewhere on Pokerstars. I finished in 28th place, which, considering the heavy competition last month is not a bad finish. But it is a new month and time for another run for that 1500 bucks! Today's tip for you is to always keep your position on the table fully understood. What I mean is this..... Last night I was in the 10pm tourney and the blinds were up to 200/400. I was sitting at about 2200 chips at the time. The cards get dealt. I get AK off-suit. The first guy to act shoves all-in. He had about the same chip stack I had. The second guy folds. My turn. I think for a moment or two and then hit the fold button. Why not take my chances here with a decent shot at doubling up heading towards the bubble? Because I had to take into account my position on the table. I was third to act. Which meant there were six people behind me yet to decide what to do. In the case of knowing I would be in a heads-up situation with the guy who shoved, I would be much more likely to call. But to enter a likely coin flip with more than one person is asking for too many things to go right for you to win. Sure you could win but the more people in a hand like that, the more cards out there that will hurt you and the less that can help you. Not to mention the fact that I was not desperately short-stacked at the time. I had plenty more chances to find a better spot to push for chips. Now how did that hand end up? The guy after me called the all-in and everyone else folded. The board read 6d 5h 8d Js 6s. The first guy had pocket nines. The second guy had pocket queens. So I avoided an exit there and ended up with positive points. Just as a side note, don't always trust the beauty of AK. Suited or not, AK is just an ace high. A high percentage of all-in losses at tables based on my own experience is that the people go out with AK, AQ, AJ, A10. An ace with a good kicker. Coin flip races won't win this league for you. You can't win enough of them. Law of averages. Once you have the confidence in your ability to play the game and make reads and decisions based on probabilities, you will be ready for a run to the top. In case anybody is interested in previous tips, there are plenty but there is only one way to get to them scrolling page by page backwards. They need a better system for these blogs. Best of luck to you all and see you in the top ten! More tips to come later......
