Congratulations are due for Team USA's representatives in the upcoming America's Cup of Poker! Albatross75, foldin 11, JJems and xmanmitch earned the four spots on the team and the free trip to Argentina to represent Team USA in the 2011 ACP!

It looks like I will have to settle for a fifth place finish and the first alternate spot! It was a good battle with lots of good competition and I am already looking forward to next year's event. I hope Team USA can bring home the gold in May!

The regular season wrapped up last night (Wednesday) with the final $11 match against Argentina. Albatross, Foldin and JJems had spots virtually locked up, leaving xmanmitch needing a strong showing to hold off me and igotdblues. xmanmitch nearly went out when there were about 55 or so players left, but he won an all-in when his pocket 10s held up against an A-10, and that gave him enough chips to make it into the top 30.

For me to catch him, I would have needed to finish about 37 spots ahead of him, so once he got to the final four tables, it was all over. I did manage to hold off igotdblues for the all important fifth spot - aka first runner-up or first alternate. igotdblues twice faced an all-in and hit winning hands on the river to stay alive and force me to keep playing. He eventually went out 33rd, and as soon as I saw him go out, I pushed all-in with an A-9 (I was down to my last 525 chips) and lost to a pair of QQ when I couldn't pair up my ace.

I suppose this will be like the Miss America competition, and if any of the first four can't make it to Argentina for the ACP, maybe I will get the call!

I really enjoyed the set-up and am already looking forward to competing in next year's event. Now I guess I'll turn my attention back to the monthy PSO competitions and see if I can do some damage in those. Plus, I've got a ticket for the Game of Your Life promotion, so I'll try that one out, too.
