World Championship of Online Poker 2013
PokerStars last week announced the schedule for the World Championship of Online Poker 2013. With 66 events it will be the largest World Championship to date and there is a massive $40 million guaranteed. The festival takes place from September 8-29, and culminates with an $8 million guaranteed No Limit Hold’em Main Event. There’s one former online World Champion who remembers just how prestigious and important winning the Main Event is. That man is JC Tran, current chip leader of the World Series of Poker Main Event, which resumes in November. He triumphed in the PokerStars 2006 World Championship under the name ‘area23JC’ and recently spoke to the PokerStars Blog to reflect on his win:

VIP Club Month
The PokerStars VIP Club Month is now in full swing, with $1 million in cash rewards and WCOOP tickets to be given away over at the start of September in five special prize draw tournaments. Gaining tickets to enter the tourneys depends on the amount of VIP Player Points earned in August – see for more details.
Also included as part of the VIP Club Month celebration is a Store Sale, VIP Trivia Satellites (which reward free tickets to the prize draw tourneys), and a VIP WCOOP Satellite. For more information, go to

VIP Club Live Vancouver

EPT Barcelona Festival
The first stop of EPT Season 10 is just a couple of weeks away, with the curtain-raiser due to take place in Barcelona. For the second time, the EPT is partnering with the popular Estrellas Poker Tour to create a 35-event festival. Among the schedule highlights are the €1,100 Estrellas Main Event with an €850,000 guarantee, and the €5,300 EPT Main Event, which last year made Mikalai Pobal an instant millionnaire.

This year looks set to smash last year’s qualifier numbers, with 397 players having already won Estrellas packages and 320 having already picked up EPT packages. For players still looking to qualify, Saturday, August 17 at 14:30 ET is the time to do it in the first ever ‘Saturday Night PSLive’ tournament. This unique tourney will award three EPT Barcelona Main Event seats in addition to regular cash prizes, as part of the guaranteed €50,000 prize pool. As added prizes, the top three will also receive eight nights’ accommodation in the Arts Hotel in Barcelona. Satellites for Saturday’s tournament are taking place daily, starting from €5.50 or 750 FPP.

There are six guaranteed PCA 2014 Main Event packages guaranteed in each Weekly Final. Check out for more information.

Meanwhile, cash satellites are also starting to populate the PokerStars lobby, with buy-ins starting from just $1.10. Log on to the client and click ‘Events’ > ‘PCA’ > ‘Cash satellites’ for more details.

Macau Poker Cup
PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams is this week playing host to the Macau Poker Cup, which runs from August 9-18 and includes 12 different events. Now it’s time for the big one, though, with the HKD $11,000 Red Dragon event already under way. Keep up to date with all the tournament action on the PokerStars Blog and check out for more information about the MPC series.

IPT Nova Gorica

Highlights from the schedule include a €1,500 High Roller and a €700 IPT Main Event, which this time features an ‘accumulator’ format that allows players who make it through each Day 1a to also buy into Day 1b and/or Day 1C each day with a new chip stack.
