The European Poker Tour today unveiled the 39-event tournament schedule for the forthcoming EPT Barcelona event, promising 11 spectacular days of world-class poker action to celebrate the tenth season of Europe’s richest poker tour.

For the second time running, the EPT will partner the Estrellas Poker Tour, now in its fourth season, to bring players the greatest variety of game types, buy-in levels and biggest prize pools of any poker festival of its kind. Last season’s Barcelona festival saw record-breaking numbers of players from all over the world with €14 million paid out in prizes. Both the EPT Main Event and the Estrellas Main Event attracted massive fields – 1,082 and 1,036 players respectively – with EPT champion Mikalai Pobal taking more than €1 million back home to Belarus. The festival was also the setting for the first EPT Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller with 64 entries generating a €3 million prize pool and €960,000 first prize for winner Dan Smith.

“It’s a great honour for us to be celebrating the start of our tenth season in Barcelona. This is where it all began and it’s incredible to think how much the tour has grown and developed since that very first event ten years ago,” said EPT President Edgar Stuchly. “We are very excited about Season 10. A whole raft of improvements were introduced last season and we will be building on these to ensure that the EPT player experience is far and away the best in the world. Barcelona is a spectacular event held in one of the most amazing destinations in Europe and our offer to players – including free Wi-Fi and live webcast broadcasts every day – is unparalleled.”

The EPT Barcelona festival takes place from August 28 to September 7 in a luxurious annexe of Casino De Barcelona in the Hotel Arts Barcelona. Ten years ago, at the first EPT Barcelona, Swedish player Alexander Stevic battled 228 players to take a first prize of €80,000. Since then more than 33,000 players have participated in 89 Main Events, and over €220 million has been paid out in prizes in the tour’s nine-year history.

Schedule Highlights

Some of the highlights from the Season 10 Barcelona opening event include the €1,100 Estrellas Main Event, which for the first time will have a guaranteed prize pool of €850,000, the €50,000 Super High Roller tournament, a wide variety of NL Turbo and Deepstack tournaments (starting from €220), a women-only event, Pot Limit Omaha and mixed games, the ever-popular €330 Win the Button No Limit Turbo as well as the flagship six-day €5,300 EPT Main Event starting on September 1.

Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano, third-place finisher in the first ever EPT event and front-runner in the EPT All-time Leader Board, said: “I can’t believe that the EPT is coming into its tenth season. The time has gone so quickly, and it has been amazing to see how the tour has grown in such a short space of time. I can’t wait to be part of the festivities, and I am looking forward to the next ten years of the EPT.”
