Playing online poker at PokerStars is always my past time to ease my boredom at work  but recently I can’t focus. Maybe after reading this, some will be laughing . I like playing poker. I even put some of my time everyday playing the Open league.

Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) crushed the central part of the Philippines on November 8, 2013. It left an apocalyptic destruction in its wake, triggering 12 to 15 feet high storm surges, flooding, and landslides affecting an estimated 4 million people of our nation. Death toll rose to 10,000 and still counting.

We live in the northern part of the Philippines safe to the super typhoon but I have relatives in that region, Samar province. I received a call from my cousin recently that their town was hardly hit too. The whole family was intact but all their properties, house etc was wiped out. Nothing left. .  “We’re back to zero” he said. I’m deeply affected emotionally.  As one of the survivor said on the news “It’s worse than hell”. True!!

I asked myself while playing poker at the same time watching TV (News)…, what have we done to deserve this catastrophic super storm? Our country is one of poorest in the world. Country’s resources are stretched from responding to three emergencies in a row within two months: armed conflict in Zamboanga in Mindanao-Southern part, the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Bohol-Central part, and now the super typhoon (Haiyan) Yolanda. Thanks to the United Nations and other International Organizations which extend their immediate aid.

If only man can change the path or defend themselves from this kind of phenomenon, there would be no pain and suffering. What can we do? It’s Mother Nature. My prayers for the Philippines and to other nations who experience the same fate.
