Hi, my name is Kristian Nikolov from Ruse, Bulgaria. Ruse is the fifth largest city in Bulgaria, in the northeastern part of the country, on the right bank of the Danube and it has a population of over 149,000 people. I'm a 21-year-old student of Law at the University of Ruse and besides poker, my other hobbies include socialising with my friends and working out in the gym.
I only joined up to PokerStars School on July 4th, 2018 so I'm a new player here and a lucky player also I guess as the very next day, on July 5th, the poker school started their brand new format of The League and I loved it from the very start. Poker as a game, however, is not that new to me. I've been playing various poker games on social media sites for a couple of years now with play money chips. At first I didn't know anything about poker and was getting crushed even at those games. Soon after I started to learn the basics and began to turn things around. When I started winning regularly I grew more confident and got more into Poker. It was then when I found PokerStars. I had just turned 18-years-old at the time and I made my first-deposit of just $10 thinking it was good enough to win, but I soon realised that this was not true. Poker is a tough game and after a few unsuccessful deposits and attempts to build a bankroll I decided to take a break from the game.
Jump forward to when I discovered PokerStars School last month and heard about the new Poker League. I was intrigued enough to want to start playing poker again, to play these Initiation level freerolls for new players, and to see how good I was against a large pool of players. The Poker League looked really exciting and it was enough to make we want to start playing poker again. I gave it a shot and it turned out great for me. In my first ever month playing The League at the poker school I finished 3rd overall at the Initiation level and won $85 dollars in tournament money which is great!
My experience with The League at PokerStars School has been great so far. The thing I like most is that the Leader Board is capped at 32 games per player each month, with only your best 15 tournament results counting. This makes it very fair to all players and gives everyone a chance to play their best each month. I feel I can do even better next month and I'm setting my targets high for August when I plan to concentrate on the Masters level and aim for 1st place and earn my place on the Poker Hall of Fame page.
If asked I would definitely recommend to new poker players to try out The League at PokerStars School especially the Initiation Level as the tournaments are free to play. You need a ticket to play these tournaments but your ticket is automatically credited to your PokerStars account as soon as you join the Poker School, it's really easy. The tournaments run from the 5th - 30th of each month and are easy to find in the PokerStars client. All that you would need to invest is a little of your time, and with a combination of skill and a bit of luck, you too can win something at the end of the month like I did. Play every tournament to win, and not just to finish in the top 15%, that would be my number one piece of advice. Play to win, always.
Finally, I want to wish everyone during the Month of August the very best of luck, see you at the tables.
Editor note: Thanks to Exailyo for sending us this story and as a thank you we will credit your account with another T$20 of tournament money. Wishing you, and all the school players, the very best of luck for the month ahead in The League.
