The King's Been Crowned Champion
Who better than a King to be crowned a champion! Well, that's exactly what happened this month when PokerStars player 'KingErce' took down the Master League at PokerStars School and won a total of T$ 500 in tournament dollars. We caught up with him to find out more...

PokerStars School: Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Erce and I'm 32-years-old. I've recently returned from Germany where I was working as a driver to live back in my native Latvia.

PokerStars School: How did you get into poker?
I first started playing when I was 18-years-old. My brother and his friends were big into online poker and they first introduced me to the game. In the beginning, I didn't know what I was doing however in one of my first live tournaments I reached the final table and won over $600. After that, I was hooked.

PokerStars School: Who is your poker hero, the player you admire the most and why?
It would have to be Daniel Negreanu, he's the best player in the world. I like how he plays and his positive attitude and one day I aspire to play as good as him.

PokerStars School: You won the Master League in June, tell us about this, was it easy or hard?
The month got off to a great start with some great results early on. The remaining weeks were tough and it was stressful up until the very end. In one of the final tournaments I finished 2nd and that got me the points I needed to win the leader-board.

PokerStars School: What do you like most about the new league?
I love The League and I think it's a great way for players to start a bankroll and begin their poker career.

PokerStars School: What was your best tournament result of the month?
I played a total of 16 tournaments during the month and, even though I didn't win any of them, I did finish 2nd on three occasions. My worst result of the month was a 64th place finish out of 158 players.

PokerStars School: Do you think that you have more chances to win T$ with the new system?
I think so yes, you don't have to play too many tournaments for a chance to win the monthly leader-board and I think the new format favours the more skilled players and not just the lucky ones.

PokerStars School: What is your favorite format? Is it tournaments, sit & go's, cash games, or spin & go's?
I'm not really a cash game player, and I don't play much ZOOM or Spin & Go's. My favourite would be large-field MTT's and I do play some Sit & Go's too.

PokerStars School: Do you follow a strategy when you play poker? Sort of like a checklist while you play?
I try to soak up as much information as I can from the school here and apply it to the tables when I play. I've found articles such as position, pre-flop mistakes, reading the board, etc, very useful.

PokerStars School: In what way has the School helped you improve your poker game?
The pokier school has helped me in many ways, such as all the articles and video as I mentioned already. It's also helped me with building a bankroll (I've now got 500 hundred tournament dollars to spend), not to mention the poker forum and live training sessions to learn from. There's a lot at this school to take advantage of.

PokerStars School: What tips or advice would you recommend to other players just starting off?
At first, don't hurry to sign up for the big tournaments that are $100 buy-ins or more. Start off with small tournaments and gradually move up to the bigger ones. And use The League to practice your best game without spending much money, and hopefully build up a bankroll as I did.
