Ramon's journey to the PSPC began at the CEP, where he won the first stop of the Championship of Spain. Down to heads up play, he and opponent Jordi Conejos agreed to a chop of the prize pool based on chip count, which gave Ramon the title and trophy. In the agreement, however, he forgot that the PokerStars PSPC points were shared. This was tangible, as PokerStars was offering a Platinum Pass for the CEP Tournament Leaderboard Champion. "If there had not been an extra prize, I probably would not have played all the stops of the CEP." Ramon later told the PokerStars Blog. This victory, however, placed him in the top 3 of the TLB and inspired him to continue playing the tour across Spain, gaining points for his performances in €500 buy-in tournaments, eventually topping the field and winning the 25K Platinum Pass.
In the Bahamas, Ramon was living the dream. The 25K Players Championship field was filled with a mix of other Platinum Pass holders, professionals, and of course, drew many of the highest level tournament players in the world to compete in this prestigious event. In the end, he battled and outlasted 1,039 players to win the biggest tournament of this kind ever played, taking home the trophy and $5.1 million in the ultimate freeroll.
Two of the 320 Platinum Pass winners made it to the final 3 players. After fellow Platinum Pass winner Marc Rivera busted in 3rd place, Colillas was left heads up against Julien Martini of France, and faced a significant chip deficit to begin the heads up battle. The tide turned however in a key big hand, where Colillas's Q5 backdoored a full house to beat Martini's flopped flush. In the end, it was Colillas who hoisted the trophy and the Championship. Ramon's hard work, starting with freerolls and micro stakes games while he learned and improved, paid off in a big way with the Platinum Pass leading to the ultimate freeroll win. On his way to this prestigious victory, Ramon built up his skills and bankroll to become one of the regular tournament winners at multiple buy-in levels across the tournament trails at PokerStars.ES. Therefore it is only natural that PokerStars would make Colillas the newest addition to their Team Pro roster.
Ramon Colillas's story is a testament to how dedication, commitment, and hard work can pay off in spades. A single tournament can be a life-changing event, and the 2019 PSPC certainly was that for Colillas.
