My Most Memorable Wins
Not all Winners Wall stories have to be about recent wins you know. We also like to hear stories about players reminiscing about their most memorable wins to date. We were delighted then when we saw a recent post in the poker forum left by PokerStars School member Aris"arisbangis" Vocal mentioning his two biggest wins to date back in 2016. We caught up with him to find out more...

PokerStars School: Tell us a little about yourself Aris?
arisbangis:
Well, I'm 37-years-old and I live in the Philippines. I'm currently out of work so I have a lot of free time to play poker at the moment. Previously I owned and operated my own small business.

PokerStars School: When were you first introduced to poker?
arisbangis:
It was way back in 2008, and hard to believe I've been playing for 11 years now. Poker back then was not the most common game played where I live but it's very popular now, especially with Internet players, and there are lots of PokerStars players from the Philippines now.

PokerStars School: Do you have any personal poker heroes? Who inspires you to play?
arisbangis:
There are two players that come to mind. The first is Doyle Brunson, he's a legend of the game and I read one of his books and it really helped me develop my skills as a poker player. The second is Phil Ivey, I just admire the way he plays and I like his style.

PokerStars School: How much poker do you play on a weekly basis?
arisbangis:
A lot, I mean I could easily play up to 12 hours daily. Like I said I have a lot of time to devote to the game. That's not just playing though, as I also spend a lot of time reviewing hands and seeing how I could have played hands better. I think this is a very important thing to do.

How to Review Your Poker Hands

PokerStars School: What're your favorite formats? Which games do you enjoy the most?
arisbangis:
Without a doubt my favorite is the 6-Max Hyper Turbos, as that's where most of my profits come from. I also really like the Spin & Go's of course. From time to time you'll also see me playing other Sit & Go's and even the Bounty Builder tournaments.

PokerStars School: What have been your biggest wins to date?
arisbangis:
It really doesn't seem like that long ago, time flies, but it was back in 2016, that was my best year so far. Both of the wins came in the same month too, which was October of that month. On the 16th I won an $11 6-Max Hyper for $531.51 and followed that up a few days later on the 20th by finishing 4th in an $11 Bounty Builder for $603.07. I really enjoyed those two tournaments and they are very memorable for me.

PokerStars School: You mentioned that you study the game. Have you found the school here useful?
arisbangis:
Yes, absolutely, PokerStars School has helped me a lot with my game. The courses and strategy material here is brilliant and a fantastic free resource. By chatting with other members of the Community I have learned to set both short and long-term goals and work hard towards achieving them. Even though it's an online school I've also taken the advice learned here into my Live Tournaments and I really believe it's giving me an edge there.

PokerStars School: And finally what advice would you give to new players that have just joined the school and are reading this?
arisbangis:
Learn the basics first and don't try anything too fancy, to begin with. Use all the resources here at the school and take advantage of the free material, it will really help you improve your game and bring you the results you are looking for.
