PokerStars School: Tell us a little about yourself?
Just said it: My name is Joseph, I'm a 22-year-old youth worker from La Ronge, Saskatchewan. I enjoy fishing and hunting and most importantly poker.
PokerStars School: How did you get into poker?
Just said it: I got into poker from my family and friends from home, we play almost daily and just enjoy simply playing the game.
PokerStars School: Who is your poker hero, the player you admire the most and why?
Just said it: I absolutely admire Daniel Negreanu because he's so confident and true to his game plan when he plays, plus he's also a Canadian and I aspire to have the success that he has in poker.
PokerStars School: You won the Initiation League in June, tell us about this, was it easy or hard?
Just said it: I was nervous at first but when I started to play more confidently I got results, and in turn, helped me hold on to my lead.
PokerStars School: What do you like most about the new league?
Just said it: I like the community aspect of it, helps you find friends while you're playing, and also gives you an opportunity to try out the things you learned from the school.
PokerStars School: What was your best tournament result of the month?
Just said it: I got first once and tended to always make a final table no matter how bad I was running, holding my composure sure helped.
PokerStars School: Do you think that you have more chances to win T$ with the new system?
Just said it: The new system is a great way for school members to earn some extra money on the side.
PokerStars School: What is your favorite format? Is it tournaments, sit & go's, cash games, or spin & go's?
Just said it: I love playing mtt's but I also enjoy spin & go's because they're quick and easy to play while you're traveling or don't get much time to play.
PokerStars School: Do you follow a strategy when you play poker? Sort of like a checklist while you play?
Just said it: I play completely on what I know because if I follow something I tend to play too tight and it never helps me In the long run, living by your roots is your best weapon.
PokerStars School: In what way has the School helped you improve your poker game?
Just said it: I was never one to take advice from anyone but the school showed me that being open to suggestions and learning the game actually improves the way you play in many different situations.
PokerStars School: What tips or advice would you recommend to other players just starting off.
Just said it: Just be confident and your best, you're not always going to be lucky but when you are it feels amazing.
